taught two cute easy ones calledEz Skillz and That Girl. You knowI think Nancy is really talented atdoing fun, easy dances. I reallyliked John Robinson’s In The MoodFor The Blues, a really cute, soulfuldance that he does so well. One ofmy faves of the weekend was ColdBlooded Lover by Joey Warren. It’sa fast waltz similar to The Smell ofYour Sweet Perfume but I love bothof those dances. Neville Fitzgeraldtaught What Am I To You and KissThe Stars, which I had heard alot about and the floor was quitefull for both of these. Guyton’sFairy Tales And Love Songs...Whatever was mentioned to mea lot. Bryan McWherter broughtback one of my all-time favourites,Phloor Philla. It was fun to try toremember. Johnny Two-Step taughtan upbeat, easy dance called JustEnjoy. Michael Thompson taughta country Beginner called KeepMy In Mind. I wanted to take WillCraig’s Worldwide but was not inthe building for that one, I loved themusic. Rona Kaye taught her newone called What’s The Point? I wasalso gone for this one but it lookedgood in the previews. The show onSaturday night was FABULOUS. Oh,my goodness, you just had to bethere. There was a 50/50 raffle and lotsand lots of passes and gifts givenout by event directors and vendorsat the event. Guyton also did araffle of his artwork with half of theproceeds going to the Boys andGirls Club of Florida. There was alsoa best costume prize for the Vegastheme. I left early on Sunday to getback home and I would definitelyhave taken Junior’s (the boy is on aroll, I tell you) Samba In The Sun. Imight have to teach this one myself.Other dances taught on Sundaywere Mirror taught by Nigel Amon,Turn To You, taught by MichaelThompson, Born For Leavin’ byNeville, Back In Black And SickOf Me taught by Junior, SearchThe Whole World taught by JulietHauser, Late Night Bimbo and LeaveYour Mark by Debbie McLaughlin,Creepin Up On You (a really darlingdance by Peter and Alison) taughtby Lynne Martino, who was theabsolutely fabulous star of the showon Saturday. I think she would winthe Academy Award of Dance forthat performance. Bonnie Mathewstaught It Happened In Montereyand Beach Thang. I’ll have to waitfor feedback on these dances orwe’ll see which ones do well onthe survey in the upcoming weeks.Needless to say, I had a blastseeing everyone and dancing andjust spending a weekend havingfun at THE MARATHON. There isonly one event like this and I hope itcontinues for many years to come.Next year is the 20th Anniversary,so plan your trip to be in Raleighbetween May 30th and June 2nd of2013 to do it all over again. Thanksso much to Jean and Scott and allof the volunteers who made THEMARATHON such a success onceagain. I heard nothing but nicethings about it and I’m alreadyreading that people are booking fornext year.www.linedancermagazine.com August 2012 • 53
