COMMON BARRATRY (also called BARRETRY) –Making a habit of starting fights or lawsuits. Startinglawsuits without a good reason.COMMON CARRIER – Required by law to carrypassengers or freight without refusal if the fare is paid; incontrast to a private or contract carrier.COMMON LAW – Laws that come from court decisionsand not from statutes (“codes”) or constitutions.COMMUNITY OBLIGATIONS – Debts that a husbandand wife owe together. In most cases, that includesanything that you still owe on any debts either of you hadduring the time you were living together as husband andwife. For example, if you bought furniture on credit whileyou were married and living together, the unpaid balance isa part of your community obligations.COMMUNITY PROPERTY – Everything that a husbandand wife own together. In most cases that includes: (1)Money or benefits like pensions and stock options that younow have which either of you earned during the time youwere living together as husband and wife; and (2) Anythingeither of you bought with money earned during that period.COMMUNITY SERVICE – Work performed aspunishment for a crime.
