HP Integrity NonStop NS5000T and NS5000CG ServersData sheetThe HP Integrity NonStop NS5000T and NS5000CGServers are high-performance servers in theIntegrity NonStop product family tailored for thetelecommunications industry. Integrity NonStopNS5000 servers are powered by Intel ® Itanium ® 2processors that deliver almost twice the performancelevel of the HP NonStop S88000SE Server. The Integrity NonStop NS5000T and NS5000CGServers are based on the HP NonStop ValueArchitecture (NSVA) and add a new option in price/performance levels while maintaining high levels ofavailability and providing industry-standard dataintegrity. These new servers also exploit the traditionaladvantage of NonStop servers with fully integratedhardware and software, which provide applicationavailability and fault tolerance right out of the box. Both Integrity NonStop NS5000T and NS5000CGServers are identical in architecture, scalability, availability, and data integrity. The difference betweenthe two models is based on the system cabinet. The HP Integrity NS5000T Server provides a scalablesystem for the –48 VDC environment, while theIntegrity NonStop NS5000CG Server is designed tomeet the rigorous standards set for equipment used intelecommunications central office environments, withfeatures such as a rugged design, –48 VDC powerand a three-stage alarm interface. It complies withBellcore’s Network Equipment Building System (NEBS)generic equipment requirements and can withstandextremes in operating conditions such as poweroutages, fluctuations in ambient temperatures, andearthquakes.

HP Integrity NonStop servers offer the highestlevels of service of any platform, whileextending the framework of the HP AdaptiveEnterprise and complex business applications.Easy expansionAs your business needs increase, you can easilyexpand either the Integrity NS5000T or theNS5000CG Server: A single server can be scaledfrom 2 to 16 processors, and as many as 4,080processors can be linked in a worldwide network.Integrity NonStop servers are leaders in scalability. Theintegrated hardware, operating system, and databasestack not only provide for the ultimate in scalability butalso contribute to a server platform with the highestbuilt-in reliability, availability, and serviceability (RAS)levels in the industry. In situations where there is an increased need foravailability and a more stringent data integrityrequirement, applications developed and deployedon Integrity NonStop NS5000 servers can be movedto the Integrity NonStop NS16000CG Server with nomodification. The Integrity NonStop NS5000CG Server is designedto meet the requirements of telecommunicationscentral office environments, but is also appropriatefor other industries or applications that depend onexceptionally high system availability. It is ideal foruse in geographic regions where power fluctuations, elevated temperatures, or earthquakes are commonoccurrences.Key features of Integrity NonStopNS5000T and NS5000CG Servers• Standards-based architecture utilizing the latestItanium processor technology, the Itanium 2processors at 1.6 GHz• Integrated hardware and software enablesapplication fault tolerance out of the box, deliveringthe highest built-in RAS levels in the industry• The HP NonStop Value Architecture (NSVA) offersNonStop system availability (at a five 9s level)• A flexible platform for either –48 VDC poweror carrier-grade environments, with a choice ofapplication architectures and management tools• Ease of upgrade to future generations of Intel Itaniumprocessors• Designed and built to last, extending the traditionof offering systems with average system uptimesmeasured in years, with no unscheduled downtime• Complete application compatibility with previousgenerations of the NonStop server platform

This new server also exploits the traditionaladvantage of NonStop servers with fully integratedhardware and software, which provide applicationavailability and fault tolerance right out of the box.The NSVA offers fault tolerance and availability similarto existing NonStop S-series servers but with betterprice/performance. The Integrity NonStop NS5000servers use industry standards by incorporating IntelItanium 2 processor technology into the NonStoparchitecture.Customers not only have the advantage of the world’smost available system—now with even greaterlevels of resilience—they also have an innovativemicroprocessor technology that can target multiplelevels of the demands of complex business applicationswith improved price/performance.As business needs evolve and demand grows, IntegrityNonStop NS5000 servers are designed to supportcomplex application requirements. Systems can startout with as few as 2 Itanium processors, and grow to16 processors.

The NSVA of the Integrity NonStop NS5000 serversdoes not use the NSAA hardware elements such asthe Logical Synchronization Unit (LSU), and there is noDual Modular Redundancy (DMR) or Triple ModularRedundancy (TMR) option. There is a single logicalprocessor in the NSVA architecture, as opposed to twoor three logical processors in the NSAA architecture. However, NSVA is still an N + 1 architecture, meaningthat the other processors in the cluster can take overwhen one processor fails using NonStop operatingsystem software. HP ServerNet fabric connectivity fromthe processors is provided by a ServerNet from PCIadapter. The NonStop software architecture remains the samein the Integrity NonStop NS5000 server as in otherIntegrity NonStop servers, providing support for faulttolerance. Therefore, the NSVA provides the samesoftware fault tolerance as the other servers in theproduct family.Manageability is designed into Integrity NonStopservers, not added later. Advanced manageabilityfeatures are delivered right out of the box, even for themost demanding workloads. You can manage largeapplications with a single system image. Availabilityfeatures are built in and automatically configured. Nocomplex reconfiguring is required.Ultimately, with Integrity NonStop servers, HP isdelivering an architecture with value-added innovationby using industry-standard servers and NonStopsoftware fault tolerance.Support of the Signaling System 7 protocolFor Intelligent Network (IN) applications, HP providesvia the HP OpenCall Intelligent Network Serversoftware several interfaces between the IntegrityNonStop NS5000T and NS5000CG Servers andSignaling System 7 (SS7) networks.
