The whole of a period of onemanifestation of that wave, of this universe, going downinto the finer forms, remaining there some time, and coming Out again, is in Sanskrit called a Kalpa, or a cycle. Thewhole of this universe is progressing in these cycles, fromthe biggest universe to every particleof matter that isinside it.Everything is moving in these waves and cycles.Next comes a very important question, especially formodern times. We see that the finer forms develop slowlyand slowly, and gradually become grosser and grosser.We have seen that the cause is the same as the effect, andthe effect is only the cause in another form. Therefore,this whole universe cannot be produced out of nothing.Nothing can come without cause, and not only so, but thecause will be there itself in fine form.So out of what has this universe been produced ?From a preceding fine universe. Out of what has man beenproduced ? The preceding fine form. Out of what hasthe tree been produced? Out of the seed ;the whole of thetree was there in the seed. It comes out and becomesmanifest. So the whole of this universe has been createdout of this very universe existing in a minute form. It hasbeen made manifest now. It will go back to that minuteform, and again will be made manifest. Now we find thatthe fine forms slowly come out and become grosser andgrosser until they reach their limit, and when they reachtheir limit they go back and back, finer and finer again.This coming out of the fine and becoming grosser andgrosser, simply changing, as it were, the position of its
