GOEBEL optiwind - the new two-drum
winder for paper and cardboard converting
GOEBEL’s activities are always customer-oriented. So the
continuous development of the GOEBEL product range is not
only a kind of vision but a logical consequence which we
gladly translate into action.
Today we present to you the GOEBEL optiwind, a two-drum
winder representing a further development of our two-drum
winder series u16/u20.
The GOEBEL optiwind enables the efficient production of high-
quality rolls for converting paper and cardboard – such as
offset newsprint, copy paper, NCR-base paper, corrugated
medium as well as craft and liner board. The winder is able to
handle materials of up to 7,000 mm width at a speed of
3.000 m/min. So this new generation of GOEBEL two-drum

winders is well capable of following the ever faster paper
machines.
These are the Highlights of the GOEBEL optiwind:
A special feature is its variable drum roller geometry which
offers the paper and board converting industry a distinctive
advantage: paper which, due to its properties tend to build up
vibrations, often cause oscillation during production which
affect the machine’s operating characteristic and thus the
finished roll quality. The variable drum roller arrangement
counteracts these negative effects by enabling the rollers in
the respective winding stages to change their position to one
another automatically, with the result that the vibrations on
the machine are reduced significantly and the roll quality is
improved.

Another advantage offered by the GOEBEL optiwind is the
arrangement of the slitting section! While the wrap shear cut
of the GOEBEL u16/u20 series has a markedly favourable
effect on the production of narrow rolls, the GOEBEL optiwind
is designed for larger working widths and higher speeds which
are reached by a different web path. While slitting on the
u16/u20 series is done on a bottom cutter shaft located
directly before the web runs onto the drum rollers, the opti-
wind uses individual slitters applied in a tangential slitting
between unwinding and winding.
This new two-drum roller assembly developed by GOEBEL
represents a milestone in the further development of its well
proven range of two-drum winders. GOEBEL optiwind stands
for a continuously high quality and productivity of converting
– naturally ensuring the excellent roll quality GOEBEL is
known for!

Signing a contract for a GOEBEL
monoslit to be sold on the Chinese
market
Bazhou City Shengfang Fuxing Color Printing Packaging Co.
Ltd. (China) signed a purchase contract for an 8.5 m wide
slitter rewinder GOEBEL monoslit. This machine is designed to
convert BOPP film for the packaging industry, a new market
segment for this customer. The new factory premises will be

built up in Bazhou City (located between Beijing and Tianjin)
and laid out to house five further production lines. The plant
is scheduled to start operation in the fourth quarter of 2010.

man of Bazhou City Shengfang Fuxing Color Printing Packag-
ing Co. Ltd., for the confidence he showed towards us.
Successful supply of a fully automatic
winding machine - GOEBEL KPW3 - to
Finland
In August we commissioned a fully automatic GOEBEL KPW3
winder on the site of our customer EURAN Erikoispaperit Oy
(Finland).
Up to date, EURAN produced cash register rolls on a GOEBEL
practica 4. The customer intended to more than double their
production so that a new slitter rewinder was needed. The
fully automatic GOEBEL KPW3 machine recently commis-
sioned is designed for a very high converting speed and a
high level of automation. So, for a roll of 100 m it takes a
cycle time of only 25 seconds, and the machine can be
changed over to a different roll size in less than 20 minutes.
The machine is equipped with a breaking and pounding
device.
Ms Riitta Suoja, the company’s CEO and co-owner (the com-
pany was part of Ahlström up to 1994) said: “We are pleased
with the successful commissioning and the enlargement of
capacity provided by the GOEBEL KPW3”.

Besides cash register rolls and paper rolls for printers and fax
machines, EURAN produces niche products such as
speedometer charts for trucks and special paper reels to be
used for medical purposes.
Dr. Bernhard Müller: New Managing
Director Sales
As from 13 July 2009, Dr Bernhard Müller was appointed
Managing Director Sales by GOEBEL Schneid- und Wickel-
systeme GmbH and its holding company, GOEBEL
Beteiligungs GmbH. Prior to this professional change, he ran
Leobersdorfer Maschinenfabrik GmbH & Co. KG (Austria).
Heinz Jung, long-time Managing Director of GOEBEL, resins
from the Board of Directors. He will stay in responsible posi-
tion and will bring in his more than 40 years experience at
GOEBEL.
“We thank Mr. Jung for his great commitment” said Dr Ralf
Enderle, Managing Director of long years and as of now
Spokesman of GOEBEL and its holding company.
In cooperation with Dr Enderle, Dr Müller will conduct our
company into a successful future.

GOEBEL took part in the J.P. Morgan
Corporate Challenge Race
This year again, GOEBEL took part in the J.P. Morgan Corpo-
rate Challenge race organized all over the world on 17 June
2009 (our employees sprinted over 3.5 miles in Frankfurt).
For the first time, 18 staff members started, well-dressed in
T-shirts that showed the motto: GOEBEL - wir laufen und
laufen und laufen wie unsere Rollenschneider (running and
running and running just like our slitter rewinders). All of our
colleagues performed strongly: Christoph Doll (trainee)
reached the finish first after 26.30 min, followed by Peter
Zimmermann (electric engineer - 28.25 min). The times of all
other GOEBEL participants were not at all bad, too!
Outlook to Exhibitions in 2009
At the international exhibitions in the first half of 2009 we
met many of our customers and enjoyed good talks with new
interested parties.
Not enough by far! In the second half of 2009 we will again
