Over 3,600 primary, secondary and special schools in Ireland (>88%of all Irish schools) are currently participating in a programme called Green-Schools, part ofthe international Eco-schools project funded by the United Nations. 2,573 Irish schools havebeen awarded the prestigious Green Flag which symbolises a multi-faceted focus on theenvironment.79
