43Radio Lumière www.radiolumirre.org , a radio station run by the Baptistchurch, It broadcasts on FM <strong>and</strong> Medium Wave from seven different locationsin Haiti <strong>and</strong> claims to reach 94% of the country.Vision 2000 www.radiovision2000haiti.net , a Port-au-Prince commercialstation with four satellite FM stations across Haiti.Radio Nationale d’Haïti (RNH) www.radionationalehaiti.org comm<strong>and</strong>s arelatively small audience, even though it does reach most parts of the countryon Medium Wave <strong>and</strong> FM. RNH is very much a mouthpiece for thegovernment of the day, rather than an independent public servicebroadcaster.Minustah FM www.minustahfm.org , the radio station of the UNpeacekeeping force in Haiti. This rents air time on 11 partner radio stationsacross Haiti to achieve nationwide coverage. Despite good nationwidecoverage, Minustah FM does not comm<strong>and</strong> a large a regular audience. It iswidely regarded as a mouthpiece for MINUSTAH rather than an independentsource of news <strong>and</strong> information.Haiti has a l<strong>and</strong> area of just 27,750 km. It is smaller than Belgium <strong>and</strong> only slightlylarger than the US state of Maryl<strong>and</strong>.However, the mountainous terrain makes it difficult for radio stations to achievebroadcast coverage of the entire country.There are no regular media audience surveys to help advertisers.But in 2010 <strong>and</strong> 2011 the Port-au-Prince market research agency DAGMARwww.dagmarht.com undertook several surveys of Haitian media audiences on behalfof USAID <strong>and</strong> the US Office of Transitional Initiatives (OTI)>43
