If valid it is probably related to Bryum radiculosum or someo<strong>the</strong>r species <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> B. erythrocarpum complex. Also <strong>the</strong> identities <strong>of</strong> Bryumintermedium subsp. cristatum Podp. reported from Fr<strong>an</strong>ce, <strong>an</strong>d B. intermedium subsp.carniolicum (Glow.) Podp. reported from Italy are unknown.[246] Grimmia crassifolia var. cucullata Baumgartner has been reported from Fr<strong>an</strong>ce, Syria<strong>an</strong>d Turkey, but Muñoz & P<strong>an</strong>do (2000) did not locate <strong>the</strong> type. Greven (2011)considers this name a synonym <strong>of</strong> G. crassifolia Broth. (distributed in <strong>the</strong> study areatrough Bulgaria <strong>an</strong>d Turkey), but Muñoz (1999) did not accept this species <strong>an</strong>dsynonymized it with G. tergestina (Ignatova & Muñoz, 2005).Therefore <strong>the</strong> identity<strong>of</strong> G. crassifolia typical variety <strong>an</strong>d var. cucullata are uncertain. This is also <strong>the</strong> case<strong>of</strong> Grimmia trichophylla var. submutica Boulay (= G. trichophylla fo. submutica(Boulay) Corb.) reported from Fr<strong>an</strong>ce, Sicily <strong>an</strong>d Tunisia. Some previous authorsconsider it a synonym <strong>of</strong> G. lisae.
