▪ Allows use of professional discretion in determining when to reportto the abuse hotline a child born prenatally drug exposed; Call800-352-2873 (FLABUSE) (s. 39.01(30)(g), F.S., 64F-4, F.A.C.).▪ Provides, through Child Protective Teams, a multidisciplinaryassessment and review of selected incidents of child abuse.▪ Makes posters available through the Department of Business andProfessional Regulation for display at points of sale for alcoholicbeverages. The posters advise of the dangers of drinking alcohol anddriving or drinking alcoholic beverages during pregnancy.SECTION 6PreventionCenters for Disease Control and Prevention’s efforts to prevent FASD:▪ Project CHOICES (Changing High Risk Alcohol Use and IncreasingContraception Effectiveness Study) is a multi-site collaborative effortbetween CDC and three universities working to prevent FAS byeducating women about the risk of prenatal alcohol exposure beforethey become pregnant.▪ Epidemiological studies have identified selected community-basedsettings (i.e. jails, alcohol and drug treatment centers, primary carecenters serving low income populations) for intervention targetingbecause they have higher proportions of women at risk for analcohol exposed pregnancy.▪ A clinical trial to test Project CHOICES’ behavioral interventionamong high-risk women in the settings described above.
