The four-day event builds on theexcitement generated by rapid advances in poultry research and its potential benefits to food safety,environmental friendly breeding, animal welfare and the international poultry industry. More than 500 topinternational scientists and researchers from around the world are expected to attend.The symposium comes at a key time for the international poultry industry, which is under unprecedentedpressure caused by record high feed prices and disease challenges. It provides an important forum forreviewing the latest advances in poultry research, how recent breakthroughs could affect poultry industry,and in-depth discussion and exchange of information on sustainable poultry production in the modern Era.This major event will showcase the latest developments in the fields, including research on nutrition andfeed additives, environment and poultry production, marketing and product safety, genetics, breeding andreproduction, poultry health, and water fowl.Taipei is the capital of Taiwan. The World's <strong>Poultry</strong> ScienceAssociation-Taiwan BranchFounded at the 18th World <strong>Poultry</strong> Congress in 1988, the World's <strong>Poultry</strong> ScienceAssociation (<strong>WPSA</strong>) Taiwan Branch is the 10th country joining the <strong>WPSA</strong> afterIndia, Israel, USA, Japan, Germany, UK, Australia, Netherland and Spain. We have153 individual and 21 group members working in poultry science and relatedprofessions in industry, academia, and government.The mission of the <strong>WPSA</strong> Taiwan Branch is to advance knowledge andunderstanding of all aspects of poultry science and the poultry industry. Weregularly hold international conferences on various aspects of poultry productionand poultry science, and we also play a major role in establishing communicationamong research scientists, educators, and those working in the many diversesectors of the industry. The Taiwan Branch is one of the activist members in the<strong>WPSA</strong>.The <strong>Asia</strong> <strong>Pacific</strong> Federation of<strong>WPSA</strong> BranchesBeginning in 1912, the World's <strong>Poultry</strong> Science Association (<strong>WPSA</strong>) has grown overto become the major international association of people concerned with poultryscience and its application in the poultry industry. There are now more than 7600members in 79 branches scattered across the globe. Branches in Europecollectively form a European Federation and 15 branches in <strong>Asia</strong>, Oceania and the<strong>Pacific</strong> collectively form the <strong>Asia</strong> <strong>Pacific</strong> Federation (APF).Member branches of the APF are Australia, Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia,Japan, Korea Republic, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka,Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.The objectives of the APF are consistent with the objectives of <strong>WPSA</strong>, which are insummary to promote the advancement of knowledge in all aspects of poultryproduction and to disseminate this knowledge to people involved in the manydiverse sectors of the global poultry industry.The APF has recently developed two working groups dealing with specific sectorsof the poultry industry which assume great importance to the region: WorkingGroup 1 on Small Scale family <strong>Poultry</strong> Farming and Working Group 2 onWaterfowl.The <strong>Asia</strong> <strong>Pacific</strong> region is huge, covering approximately one third of the earth'sland mass and containing over 60% of the world's human population. Already theregion is responsible for 62% of global egg output and 36% of global poultry meatoutput. More than 90% of the commercial waterfowl are found here. The region isa rising star in the global poultry industry.
