Educating and Cultivating Servants for ChristJunior High Academic ChallengeCongratulations to (left to right) Ian Yoder, Kevin Bailey, Amelia Sabo, MattBroadus, Kristen Huseman, and Stefan Loos.After winning a state-level tournament in the spring, CVCA’s eighth gradeAcademic Challenge team went to Chicago in June to compete in the 2012Junior National Academic Championship. They won three of their six preliminaryround matches, and one of their three losses came down to the finalquestion. They were just one question away from making the playoffs. Fortheir win-loss record and average points scored per match, they finished twenty-firstout of the forty-six teams competing at the national level. This was anexcellent showing, especially since this was the team’s first full year of existence,and they were competing against a number of more experienced teams,some of which included freshmen. Congratulations, team, on a terrificAcademic Challenge season!American StatisticalAssociationPosterCompetitionWinnersEach year students fromCVCA’s Statistics class createsposters which are entered intoa competition sponsored bythe American StatisticalAssociation. This year, recentgraduates Julia Benyo, ErikaShores, and Laura Sierko,along with returning seniorKacie Moore, entered a posterwhich they called “DangerousDebt: What is the PerceivedImpact of Credit Card Debt inthe United States?”Their poster was awardedFirst Place in the State ofOhio Competition, and alsoFirst Place on the nationallevel. Congratulations, ladies!CVCA Robotics TeamThis fall, for the first time, CVCA will sponsor a team to compete in anational level robotics competition, BEST Robotics. Founded in 1993,BEST is a program in which teams of high school students design and build arobot in a period of six weeks to complete a specific challenge in competitionagainst other teams.
