Nadine Archibald – kConFab Queensland
I belong to a very vibrant and energetic art group called studio 8. I have
been an artist for 13 years and had three solo exhibitions one of them
in New York in 2003. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000 and
a day prior to my diagnosis, studio 8 had a happy weekend painting a
large mural on a wall. We used a large piece of masonite to mix our
paint and the masonite board was left at my home. The board was
covered with a myriad of colours with all sorts of wonderful shapes and
textures. During my recovery I would walk past this board every day
and it would always catch my eye. It suddenly occurred to me it could
be turned into a contemporary or impressionistic painting of flowers.
During the weeks of my recovery I worked on that board and turned it
into a painting which I called – healing flowers – it reminds me
continually how working with paint and creating helped me through a
more difficult time in my life. It hangs in my bathroom where I see it
daily and it is not for sale.
