TCS Policy and ProcedurePOLICY TITLE: <strong>Employee</strong> <strong>Referral</strong> <strong>Program</strong>EFFECTIVE DATE: January 29, 2009POLICY NUMBER: HR-2031SCOPE: Full-time and Part-time StaffORIGIN: Office of Human ResourcesApproved by the Cabinet on January 29, 2009Revised by the Cabinet on (fill in date)PURPOSEThe purpose of The Chicago School employee referral program is to encourage currentemployees to refer qualified candidates for open positions. If an employee refers aqualified candidate, he or she will receive $500 (before applicable taxes) if the candidateis hired and remains in the position in good standing for at least 180 days.POLICYAll regular full-time and part-time staff of The Chicago School may participate in theemployee referral program.1. The referring employee must submit the <strong>Employee</strong> <strong>Referral</strong> <strong>Program</strong> Form alongwith the candidates resume and cover letter prior to the candidate’s first interviewto be eligible for referral bonus.2. Associate Vice President level and above, Human Resources employees,supervisors to whom the candidate will report, previous Chicago Schoolemployees, temporary employees, contractors (including adjunct faculty), andstudent employees are excluded from receiving referral bonuses.3. <strong>Referral</strong>s of existing Chicago School employees are not eligible for referralbonuses. This includes referrals of current staff, faculty, temps, contractors andstudent workers.4. All candidates will be evaluated for employment consistent with The ChicagoSchool’s policies and procedures. Only candidates who meet the essentialqualifications for the position will be considered.5. All information regarding the hiring decision will remain strictly confidential.6. The referrer must be an employee in good standing and not the subject of anyprogressive discipline action for referral bonus pay-out.7. Only current employees are eligible to receive the referral bonus.8. There is no limit to the number of referral bonuses an employee can receive.9. There is no limit to the number of referrals an employee can submit.


10. Once a referral is hired, 100% of the referral bonus will be paid via the payrollsystem in the first pay period following the referred candidate’s 180th day.11. <strong>Referral</strong> bonuses are considered income and will be subject to all applicabletaxes.<strong>12</strong>. Any disputes or interpretations of the program will be handled through the Officeof Human Resources.PROCEDURE<strong>Referral</strong>s are made by current employees by completing an <strong>Employee</strong> <strong>Referral</strong> <strong>Program</strong>form listing the referred applicant’s name and attaching his/her resume and cover letter.The <strong>Employee</strong> <strong>Referral</strong> <strong>Program</strong> Form is located in the Human Resources Formssection on e<strong>Employee</strong>: http://employee.thechicagoschool.edu/content.cfm/ee_forms
