To put your autoloaderON SAFE hold your rifle in the normalshooting position, pointed in a safe direction,and push the safety button from left to rightas far as it will go. Your autoloader Is nowcocked and ready to fire when the safety ispushed to the OFF SAFE position.~6To FirePush the safety to the OFF SAFE positionnnd with the gun pointed nt the torget,squeeze the trigger. Since your rifle is anautoloader, after each shot is fired it is readyto be fired again. If you have not fired allcartridges at the target. be sure to put thesafety ON SAFE until you are ready to shootagain.5


How to Unload1Before you unload. be sure your rifle is ONSAFE and pointed in a safe direction. To un.load your autoloader you must first unloadyour magazine. This can be accomplished byeither removing your clip or unlocking andremoving the inner magazine tube and empty.ing all cartridges. Then replace and lock thetube back in position. Next, the action mustbe cleared by grasping the charging handle,pulling it fully to the rear (bolt open) andletting it snap forward freely. This must bedone repeotedly until the ejection of cor.tridges ceases. Refer to photo E which illus.trates clearing the action. Finally you mustcheck the chamber and feed throat visuallyto be sure that no cartridges remain. Thevisual check may be accomplished moreeasily by locking the action in the open posi.tion, (bolt to the rear). First, pull the charginghandle rearword and hold it open. Now en.gage the lock by pushing the charginghandle to the left, toward receiver (photo F).To release, pull the charging handle outto the right and let it snap forward freely.8What to do if your Rifle fails to fireA. Unscrew take.down screwsA and B as shown in photo I. Separate therifle into two segments, the first consisting8of the stock and trigger assembly, the seconctJconsisting of the barrel and action. Unscrewthe assembly screws D and E as well asassembly post screw F as shown in photo J.Remove assembly post G. The action cannow be removed from the receiver.(Models 99M 1. 989M2). Remove the twohand guard screws and barrel band shownin photo K. You may now proceed in accor.dance with the disassembly instructions de.scribed above for the Model 99C.Step

The ac.tion should be cleaned in solvent, dried, andoiled lightly prior to reassembly.Caution: Further disassembly of the action isnot recommended and should only be at.tempted by a <strong>Marlin</strong> Recommended Gun.smith or the factory.Step #6 - To reassemble, first insert therecoil spring and spring guide into the holeat the rear of the receiver. Caution .should beexercised so as to prevent kinking of the recoilspring during this phase of reassembly.The charging handle can now be positionedthrough the ejection port as shown on photoN. To complete insertion of breech bolt besure the charging handle fits into the slotprovided for it in the breech bolt. Now insertthe action into the receiver and reverse thedisassembly procedure described for yourparticular model.9 0
