Addendum to EMPR for Concessions 8(a), 9(a) and 8(b) 91do not apply when the safety of human life or vessels are at stake.In 1986, a special set of guidelines for dredged material was adopted as part of the Conventionon the Prevention of Marine Pollution by Dumping Wastes and Other Matter (London Convention1972). These have recently been revised as the Dredged Material Assessment Framework(DMAF), which is a generic guideline for decision-makers in the field of management of dredgedmaterial. The DMAF provides a clear set of guidelines for dredging and disposal operations toensure that these are carried out in such a way as to limit environmental damage. It includesland-based disposal and treatment options, which are not incorporated by the Convention or its1996 Protocol. The framework is illustrated in Figure 6.3.
