Fastrax IT520and IT500Ultra sensitive!Simply the most sensitiveGPS receiver modulesThe most sensitive GPS receivers forultimate performanceFastrax IT520 and IT500 GPS receiver modules offerthe best performance and sensitivity among any GPSmodules. Both modules have same features andspecifications, like 14 days predicted A-GPS, up to10Hz update rate, and on top of all: an amazing signalacquisition and record breaking navigation sensitivity. The only difference is size. IT520 is the smallestmodule in the Fastrax IT500 series of GPS receiverswith a footprint of only 10.4 x 14.0 x 2.3mm whilethe IT500 has Fastrax Multiplatform footprint, whichmeans that that the same hardware design can beused for Fastrax IT300 modules as well.SensitivitySensitivity = “Minimum received signal strength that areceiver can work with”With cold start sensitivity of -148dBm it is possible toacquire satellite signals and start navigating in placeswhere competing modules do not get even the first fix.Once the receivers have a fix, the ultimate navigationsensitivity of -165 dBm ensures the satellite signalswill be received even in most dense and difficult urbanareas.Very high sensitivity also compensates the possiblenegative effect of host system EMI, enabling postinstallationsin several additional applications.Assisted GPS (A-GPS) with two weeks ephemerisinformation makes the startup time to acquire a positioneven faster.IT520ActualsizeKey Features:IT500, compatible with Fastrax ITMultiplatform footprintIT520, size only 10.4 x 14.0 x 2.3mmLow power consumption:75mW@3.0VUltimate sensitivity:-148 dBm (acquisition)-165 dBm (navigation)10 Hz fix update rateA-GPS (14 days predicted ephemeris)Optional USB 2.0 connection (IT520U)Jammer detection and removalFlexible and low powerFastrax IT500 series receiver modules have internalhigh-efficiency switch mode regulators which enablea wide power range (+3.0…+4.2V) and power supplydirectly from Lithium Ion or Lithium Polymer batteries, without adding the cost of expensive external regulators. At +3.0 volt the power consumption is as low as75mW in full operation, 3mW in stand-by mode andonly 15uW in back-up mode.10 www.fastraxgps.comThe specifications in this document are subject to change without prior notice. Fastrax makes no warranties, either expressed or impliedwith respect to the information and specifications contained in this document. Fastrax Software GNSSWhat is Fastrax Software GNSS?Fastrax Software GNSS performs all GNSS functionalitiesin software on an already existing CPU of thedevice, without the need of any GNSS specific IC. Thisincludes signal correlation, - acquisition and – trackingas well as pseudorange calculations, navigation andfinal output.Fastrax Software GNSS is a highly flexible receiver usingan RF Front-end as the only GNSS specific component. With a suitable RF front-end any existing and futureGNSS system can be utilized for navigation. This kindof receiver architecture is also the most cost-efficientcompared to any other GNSS receiver implementation.A software receiver can also be used to implementreceiver architectures that are not possible with atraditional hardware based solution and therefore e.g.extreme sensitivity or lowest possible power consumptioncan be achieved. Close R&D cooperation with thecustomer during early stage of the project ensures thatchoice of RF Front-End and CPU as well as SoftwareGNSS design is optimized for the customers’ particularapplication and needs.Key Features:Lowest cost GNSS solutionHuge cost saving through softwareupgrades instead of HW re-designsLowest possible energy/fix required.Easy to optimize and adjust to availableresources and signal availabilityFlexibility for customizationsSupport for GNSS, Software upgradeableto new GNSS systemsNon real time requirement for signalprocessingBenefits with Fastrax Software GNSSCost & Flexibility – Cost is significantly reducedas required silicon area is minimized in comparison toany other available GNSS solution.Flexibility is unique with Fastrax Software GNSS. Byusing latest available radios with Fastrax SoftwareGNSS things become really interesting. The receiversupports GPS today but can be configured to receiveother GNSS signals in the future as well. A multibandGNSS receiver can thus be implemented with a fractionof the cost of existing conventional multiband receivers.Low power consumption – Another truly uniquefeature with Fastrax Software GNSS is that the powerconsumption is typically 30mJ/fix, which is equivalentof more than 60.000 fixes from a single coin cell battery. This is achievable as Fastrax Software GNSS receiverneeds only to be on as long as the GNSS signal isreceived. In urban canyons 100ms is typically enoughfor good performance and in areas with good visibility itcan be even shorter.Record Breaking Sensitivity – Fastrax SoftwareGNSS enables also integration times far longerthan conventional receivers and thus record breakingacquisition sensitivities can be achieved. The softwarearchitecture is also very flexible in terms of number ofchannels and number of correlator fingers used, whichcan be adjusted and optimized according to applicationspecific requirements. With Fastrax Software GNSS it isadditionally straightforward to implement multipath mitigationand to detect and eliminate interference of CW(continuous wave) type of signals.22 www.fastraxgps.com

Software GPSSW GNSS benefits per target marketCellular (Handset) market:- New requirements for performance as well as additionalGNSS systems are often limited by hardware. With Software GNSS, the flexibility of the solutionwill solve this issue.- Low BOM cost is a standard requirement; the bestoption to minimize component cost is to utilizealready existing hardware capabilities. This can beachieved by true SW GNSS integration.- Size of required additional components is minimalTablets and portable computers:- Low component cost. When properly planned, theexisting CPU power is sufficient for continuous navigationutilizing SW GNSS.- Size of the GNSS solution is critical, it’s always beneficialto get rid of extra HW or components.- Multi-GNSS support will become de facto standard.Software is the optimal way to achieve this.- Narrowband EMI is a challenge in almost every platform, with SW GNSS the interference can easily beremoved. Fastrax design support can also help insuppressing wideband EMI.Timing and synchronization:- Accuracy of timing is critical with most systems. SWGNSS with 1PPS accuracy of 15 ns will make theSW GNSS an unbeatable solution for any synchronizationsystem.- Utilizing existing hardware, SW GNSS can be usedfor example in femtocell systems. There is no needto add a special GNSS receiver module with costlyVCOCXO and other components, instead a lowcostVCTCXO can be used, saving remarkably onthe cost.Digital cameras:- The most critical requirements for picture positioningin camera are TTFF as well as power consumption.- Using Tag & Locate with SW GNSS post-processingcapability, the signals (noise) can be recorded at themoment of pressing the shoot-button, minimizingthe power consumption as well as the typical timefor TTFF. The recorded Tag can be stored simply onthe memory card like the photo. Photos are thenuploaded to a computer where the position can becalculated, using the Fastrax SW GNSS.- Price of SW GNSS in camera application is minimalcompared to a built-in GNSS receiver.FFT Acq Correlator API iCore TM SW Corrsmartpositioning11/201123
