It also meanshelping to improve the future and providing hope to people throughout the worldby building better communities. That’s why <strong>Carlyle</strong> professionals contribute theirtime and talents to add value to the places they call home in ways that bringemployees together as One <strong>Carlyle</strong> working for a common purpose.In 2005, we established <strong>The</strong> <strong>Carlyle</strong> <strong>Group</strong> Volunteer and WealthSharing Program. <strong>Carlyle</strong> employees are encouraged to take oneworkday per year to volunteer with colleagues for a charity orgood cause in their local community.In <strong>2008</strong>, <strong>Carlyle</strong> employees donated holiday gifts to familiesin need in cities around the world, including London, New Yorkand Washington, DC. Employees also built houses in partnershipwith Habitat for Humanity, sorted and distributed food atarea food banks, donated blood, and contributed and assembledbook bags filled with school supplies to 200 Washington, DCelementary school students.In China, RMB1 million (US$143,000) was donated to theChinese Red Cross in <strong>2008</strong> on behalf of <strong>Carlyle</strong> to help withthe relief and recovery efforts following the earthquake in theSichuan Province. A letter expressing our concern and supportwas sent to the Chinese Ambassador to the United States.In Europe, volunteers helped renovate a building and transformit into affordable housing in South London.Our Wealth Sharing Program supports <strong>Carlyle</strong> employeesin their choice of charitable giving by matching on a dollar-fordollarbasis up to $1,000 per year contributions made to educationaland humanitarian organizations.
