The son of a localnewspaper editor <strong>and</strong> author, he trainedon local papers in the West Midl<strong>and</strong>sbefore moving to London as theWolverhampton Express & Star’s politicalcorrespondent. He then became theSunday Mirror’s political editor based inthe House of Commons, before moving toThe Times where he covered many of thekey national news stories <strong>and</strong> court casesfor 13 years. As well as being a newsreporter specialising in crime, he workedon the news desk as a news editor.Last year, he joined the Daily Mail asa Senior Features Writer where he hascarried out in-depth investigations intoa variety of issues, including two articlesabout the theft of metal. One undercoverinvestigation involved selling a varietyof ‘stolen’ cabling from a power stationas well as mocked up war memorials toscrap metals dealers across the WestMidl<strong>and</strong>s. He is dual qualified as a solicitor<strong>and</strong> chartered safety <strong>and</strong> health practitioner<strong>and</strong> provides pro-active advice on a widerange of health <strong>and</strong> safety <strong>and</strong> regulatoryissues to corporate <strong>and</strong> commercialclients in all sectors, as well as respondingto incidents when they happen. He will becomeGeneral Secretary on 1 January 2013.Currently, he has overall responsibilityfor members employed in the <strong>Energy</strong><strong>and</strong> Defence Sectors <strong>and</strong> the policylead for <strong>Health</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Safety</strong> <strong>and</strong> LegalServices. He is a member of theNational Hesac.Kevin has been a trade Union Officialfor fifteen years. After 8 years he joined theCEGB as an Area Medical Officer <strong>and</strong>since then he has had 25 years in theelectricity generating sector, primarilynuclear focussed with Nuclear Electric <strong>and</strong>Magnox, his last appointment until retiringin 2011 being the Chief Medical Officerof British <strong>Energy</strong>. He now works part timeas Medical Adviser to EDF <strong>Energy</strong> NuclearGeneration in Barnwood. His mainoccupational health interests are in fitnessfor duty in safety critical environments,health effects of ionising <strong>and</strong> non ionisingradiations <strong>and</strong> drugs <strong>and</strong> alcohol at work.He is a Fellow of the Faculty of OccupationalMedicine <strong>and</strong> served 6 years as an ordinaryboard member. He was a trustee of theBritish Occupational <strong>Health</strong> ResearchFoundation charity for 15 years <strong>and</strong> isa co author of the FOM publication‘Guidance on alcohol <strong>and</strong> drug misusein the Workplace’. He has also served aterm as Chair of the Occupational <strong>Health</strong>Advisory Group <strong>and</strong> has been a memberof the Compensation Scheme Council forradiation linked diseases <strong>and</strong> its technicalworking party, the BMA occupational healthcommittee <strong>and</strong> various epidemiologyresearch steering groups.Robert DavisGroup CEO, EA Technology GroupRobert is Group Chief Executive Officerof EA Technology Group, a fast growingtechnology company operating in thepower engineering sector. Doubling in sizein the last five years, the company currentlyemploys 211 staff. The majority of theseoperate within Capenhurst in Cheshire,with a growing proportion working fromoffices in Shanghai, Abu Dhabi, Brisbane,Florida <strong>and</strong> Singapore. She obtained her BSc fromLoughborough University <strong>and</strong> obtained herMSc in Occupational Psychology from theUniversity of Leicester, where she alsogained certificates of competency inPsychometric Testing (Level A <strong>and</strong> B).While at the Institute of Work <strong>Health</strong><strong>and</strong> Organisations (IWHO) she has beenconducting applied research measuringthe safety culture of large international highhazard organisations. This research hasfocused on measuring the safety cultureof the organisations <strong>and</strong> designing <strong>and</strong>implementing initiatives to promote <strong>and</strong>improve safety performance. She is alsoinvolved with the European Agency for<strong>Safety</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Health</strong> at Work where hermain role is collecting case studies of bestpractice in Occupational <strong>Safety</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Health</strong>.Additionally she runs tutorials <strong>and</strong> seminarswith the Masters students <strong>and</strong> has workedas a part-time research assistant in theSchool of Nursing, where she was involvedin designing online training programs toeducate <strong>and</strong> encourage participation inphysical activity.In her previous role, she was a consultantin a consultancy specialising in promotingwell-being in the workplace. He is employedas a Psychologist with speciality inoccupational health.
