A devoted teammate throughout his career, Ramsey instills in younger playersthe finer points of being successful in the NHL.The Minneapolis native enjoyed a very successful playing career that included participation infour NHL All-Star Games (1982, 1983, 1985, 1986) and Rendez-Vous ‘87. He was a member ofthe University of <strong>Minnesota</strong>’s 1979 NCAA Championship squad and the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockeyteam, which upset the Soviet Union and went on <strong>to</strong> capture the gold medal in Lake Placid, N.Y.Of the 18 seasons Ramsey played in the NHL, 14 were spent skating for the Buffalo Sabres (1979-93). He was traded from Buffalo <strong>to</strong>Pittsburgh in March of 1993, and eventually finished his career with the Detroit Red Wings. Ramsey went <strong>to</strong> the 1995 Stanley Cup Finalswith Detroit, and made a brief two-game comeback during the 1996-97 season before retiring. He still ranks third on the Sabres all-timeregular season games played list with 911. In 1,070 career NHL contests, Ramsey <strong>to</strong>taled 79 goals, 266 assists, 345 points and 1,012penalty minutes (PIM). He participated in the Stanley Cup Playoff in 15 of his 18 seasons and notched 37 points (8-29=37) and 176 PIM in115 contests. Ramsey was originally the Sabres’ first choice (11th overall) in the 1979 NHL Entry Draft.He and his wife, Jill, have three children and reside in Chanhassen, Minn.Mario TremblayASSISTANT COACHMario Tremblay is in his ninth year as an Assistant Coach for the <strong>Minnesota</strong> <strong>Wild</strong>. With 35 yearsof experience in the NHL, Tremblay works closely with the players in every aspect of the game andprovides an unrivaled passion for the sport.Prior <strong>to</strong> joining the <strong>Wild</strong> on July 24, 2000, Tremblay spent three seasons as a Professional Scoutfor the Montreal Canadiens, and previously worked behind the bench as the club’s Head Coach.Tremblay became the 22nd Head Coach in the his<strong>to</strong>ry of the Canadiens on Oc<strong>to</strong>ber 21, 1995. Onthat same evening, he coached his first NHL game, guiding the Canadiens <strong>to</strong> a vic<strong>to</strong>ry againstthe Toron<strong>to</strong> Maple Leafs at the Montreal Forum. In two seasons, Tremblay compiled a record of71-63-25 (.525) in 159 contests and led the club <strong>to</strong> the playoffs both seasons. Prior <strong>to</strong> becoming the Canadiens Head Coach, he was awell-known radio and television sports commenta<strong>to</strong>r.Tremblay, 52 (9/2/56), became the youngest player ever <strong>to</strong> wear the Montreal Canadiens uniform when he joined the team, at age 18, in1974. He played with Montreal for 12 seasons and was a teammate of <strong>Wild</strong> President/General Manager Doug Risebrough and <strong>Wild</strong> HeadCoach Jacques Lemaire on the Canadiens team that won four consecutive Stanley Cups from 1975-76 <strong>to</strong> 1978-79. Tremblay earned a fifthStanley Cup title as a member of the 1985-86 Montreal Canadiens. In 852 games, the right wing recorded 584 points (258 goals and 326assists) and 1,043 penalty minutes. Tremblay <strong>to</strong>ok part in the NHL playoffs for 11 straight seasons and <strong>to</strong>taled 49 points (20 goals, 29 assists)in 101 games. Tremblay was originally the Canadiens fourth choice (12th overall) in the 1974 NHL Entry Draft.A native of Alma, Quebec, Tremblay and his wife, Colette Germain, have two daughters, Claudia and Janie, and two grandsons, Matis andDanyk. The family resides in Lilydale, Minn.COACHING STAFFMatt ShawASSISTANT COACHMatt Shaw begins his second season with the <strong>Minnesota</strong> <strong>Wild</strong> and first as an Assistant Coach. OnJuly 10, 2007 Shaw was named video coach for the <strong>Wild</strong>, then on July 10, 2008 General ManagerDoug Risebrough announced Shaw as an assistant coach for the 2008-09 season. Shaw will alsokeep his video responsibilities, including pre-scouting opposing teams and analyzing each gameas it occurs for the <strong>Wild</strong>.Shaw, 42 (10/11/65), has been behind the bench for more than 1,000 professional and collegiatehockey games in his coaching career and spent seven seasons as an Assistant Coach for theHous<strong>to</strong>n Aeros of the American Hockey League (AHL), the <strong>Wild</strong>’s primary development affiliate,before joining the <strong>Wild</strong>. Shaw also served as Assistant General Manager for Hous<strong>to</strong>n and helped lead the Aeros <strong>to</strong> a record of 273-215-74(.552), including the 2003 Calder Cup, in his seven years with the organization.Prior <strong>to</strong> joining Hous<strong>to</strong>n, Shaw served as Head Coach of the Quad City Mallards of the United Hockey League (UHL) in 1999-2000, leading theteam <strong>to</strong> a 53-16-5 record, and spent two seasons as an Assistant Coach in Quad City from 1995-97. He was also the Assistant Coach for theChicago Wolves of the International Hockey League (IHL) in 1998-99 and served as Head Coach of the ECHL’s Mobile Mysticks in 1997-98.The Phoenix, Ariz. native began his coaching career with his alma mater, Colorado College, w<strong>here</strong> he served as an Assistant Coach for theTigers from 1989-92. His primary responsibilities were coordinating practices and recruiting. During his tenure, Shaw was the youngestrecruiter on the Division I NCAA circuit. He played 138 collegiate games with U.S. International University (1985-88) and Colorado College(1988-89) and was a tri-captain with the Tigers during his senior season and earned All-WCHA Honorable Mention.Shaw and his wife, Carolyn, have a daughter, Clare, and a son, Hayden.Bob MasonGOALTENDING COACHBob Mason is in his seventh year as Goaltending Coach for the <strong>Minnesota</strong> <strong>Wild</strong> after being named<strong>to</strong> the position on September 14, 2002. He is responsible for working with goaltenders throughoutthe <strong>Wild</strong> organization. Under his tutelage, <strong>Minnesota</strong> has ranked in the <strong>to</strong>p five in the NHL in savepercentage and the <strong>to</strong>p eight in goals against average (GAA) every season. <strong>Wild</strong> goaltendersDwayne Roloson (2004) and Niklas Backstrom (2007) have won the Roger Crozier Saving GraceAward given annually <strong>to</strong> the goalie with the NHL’s best save percentage and <strong>Minnesota</strong> rankedfirst in the League in 2006-07 with a 2.20 GAA and a .922 save percentage and claimed the WilliamJennings Trophy as the team allowed a league low 191 goals against.Mason, 47 (4/22/61), also served as a Goaltending Consultant for the Atlanta Thrashers during its first two seasons of existence from 1999-2001. Prior <strong>to</strong> joining the Thrashers, he spent three seasons with the University of <strong>Minnesota</strong> as a volunteer Goaltender Coach. Mason playedparts of eight seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Washing<strong>to</strong>n Capitals, Chicago Blackhawks, Quebec Nordiques andVancouver Canucks. He finished his NHL career with a 55-65-16 record and a 3.76 GAA in 145 games from 1984 <strong>to</strong> 1991. He also appearedin five Stanley Cup playoff games and posted a 2-3 record and a 1.95 GAA with Washing<strong>to</strong>n and Chicago.
