Boyd is in his ninth year with the <strong>Minnesota</strong> <strong>Wild</strong> as Orthopedic Surgeon. In addition <strong>to</strong>his role with the <strong>Wild</strong>, he also serves as a Physician at TRIA Orthopaedic Center in Blooming<strong>to</strong>n,<strong>Minnesota</strong>.Boyd, 50 (12/31/57), is a United States Olympic Team Physician and, most recently, representedhis country with the United States ice hockey entry in the 2002 World Championships in Swedenand with the 2001 World Championships team in Germany. He also worked as an Olympic TeamPhysician for the United States men’s and women’s hockey teams in Nagano, Japan, in 1998. Dr.Boyd has served as a National Team Physician for USA Hockey and worked with the USA WorldChampionships team in Zurich, Switzerland. He previously held the role of Co-Medical Direc<strong>to</strong>r for the International Hockey League’s (IHL)<strong>Minnesota</strong> Moose.Dr. Boyd completed his undergraduate work and received a Master of Science degree from Bucknell University and graduated from TempleUniversity Medical School. He completed his orthopedic training at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and his fellowship training at theUniversity of Western Ontario, Canada.Dr. Boyd and his wife, Cheryl, have three children, Kendall, Kyle and Kasey, and reside in Eden Prairie, Minn. He enjoys traveling, playing golf,watching movies and listening <strong>to</strong> music in his free time.Dr. Joel BoydORTHOPEDIC SURGEONDr. Sheldon Burns begins his ninth year as Medical Direc<strong>to</strong>r for the <strong>Minnesota</strong> <strong>Wild</strong>. His dutieswith the <strong>Wild</strong> include serving as head Team Physician, coordinating medical care for players andstaff and organizing the club’s medical staff. Dr. Burns is a board certified specialist in FamilyPractice, Emergency Medicine and Sports Medicine.Dr. Burns, 59 (5/24/49), has served in official capacities at seven Olympic Games, two WorldChampionships and three Goodwill Games, including working with the 1980 and 1984 Olympichockey teams and the 1982 and 1983 United States World Championship hockey teams. He wasthe Team Physician for the 2008 United States Olympic Team in Beijing, China and served in thesame capacity for the United States at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece. In 2007, Dr. Burns served as the Chief Medical Officer for theUnited States at the 24th International World University Games in Bangkok, Thailand and was the Team Physician at the 2007 Tournamen<strong>to</strong>f Americas.He also served as Deputy Commissioner of the International Olympic Committee’s Medical Commission, which was responsible for all medicalcare at the Olympic Games in Atlanta, Sydney and Nagano. Dr. Burns is also the Medical Direc<strong>to</strong>r of the NBA’s <strong>Minnesota</strong> Timberwolves,the WNBA’s <strong>Minnesota</strong> Lynx, the NLL’s <strong>Minnesota</strong> Swarm and Team Physician for the NFL’s <strong>Minnesota</strong> Vikings. His practice is at Edina FamilyPhysicians.Dr. Burns has lectured on sports medicine in Europe, Asia and North America and has been recognized nationally and internationally for hiswork. He was most recently named the NBA Physician of the Year in 2005-06.
