L. is 104 Mrs Lobban who has been a resident in theShipwrecked Mariner’s Society Rock House for the last few years celebrated her104 th birthday there last week.Mrs June Ritchie, housekeeper said how Mrs Lobban had been in Spynie Hospital inElgin with a cold in March <strong>and</strong> when she had paid her a visit the old lady hadsaid: “ I’ll jist come hame wi ye”. An end piece was fitted to the cross byHamilton Brothers, Engineers, <strong>Buckie</strong>, <strong>and</strong> then taken to the workshop of TomHillocks Painter <strong>and</strong> Decorator.With the aid of employee, Dennis Stead they covered the cross with 22½ caratgold leaf. Mr Hillocks explained that despite the fact that it cost 60pence persheet gold leaf had to be used for the task of decorating the cross because goldpaint would not st<strong>and</strong> the test of the elements. Gold Leaf will last a lifetimeapparently. “ Most of the gold leaf will have been donated anyway”, he said, “ sothe job wont be that expensive.”Fancy going to the pictures? Fifteen members were present <strong>and</strong> the Rev Fred Coutts who is joiningthe club. Chairman of the evening , William Cecil introduced Bill Cook who devotedhis speech to examining some historical myths <strong>and</strong> Peter Bruce on the art ofgrowing flowers from seeds. Wm. Taylor chaired a topics session on the generaltheme of beauty.
