<strong>The</strong> Mill is a document <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> living and working spaces <strong>of</strong> Hilla and Bernd Becher, a former papermill in Düsseldorf-<br />
Kaiserwerth where <strong>the</strong> couple lived from 1961 to 2003. <strong>The</strong> photographs were made between February 2001 and<br />
September 2002. Matthias P. Schaller’s photographs are portraits without <strong>the</strong> sitter.<br />
Matthias Petrus Schaller was born in Dillingen (<strong>Germany</strong>) in 1965. He lives in Venice, Italy. He studied Cultural<br />
Anthropology in Hamburg, Göttingen and Siena. Schaller received <strong>the</strong> Ci Art Award 2004. His work has been<br />
exhibited in New York at <strong>the</strong> Goe<strong>the</strong> Institut, as well as at <strong>the</strong> Architectural Biennale in Venice.<br />
