NAVAL FLIGHT OFFICERS<br />

Navy and Marine Corps flight officers receive similar training<br />

and perform similar duties to those of Air Force navigators.<br />

A flight officers’ primary training is in areas such as<br />

meteorology, air navigation, flight planning, and aircraft<br />

safety. Their advanced training is in radar intercept,<br />

advanced radar navigation, airborne tactical data systems,<br />

or advanced navigation.<br />

Navy flight officers are radar intercept officers,<br />

bombardier/navigators, tactical coordinators, or airborne<br />

electronic warfare specialists. Marine Corps flight officers<br />

may have one of the following military occupational<br />

specialties: radar intercept officer, tactical navigator,<br />

electronic countermeasure officer, airborne reconnaissance<br />

officer, or weapons and sensors officer.<br />

At the present time, there are only a few flight<br />

officers in the Coast Guard aviation fleet. Highly trained<br />

specialists, when needed, are generally transferred from<br />

one of the other military services.
