38 Part II: Military Flight Aptitude Tests
Before you take some of the subtests, you have the
opportunity to answer some practice questions to be sure
that you understand what you are to do on the test. If you
are not sure what you are supposed to be doing, ask your
test administrator or proctor to explain before you start
answering the actual test questions. However, test administrators
or proctors can only assist you in understanding the
directions. They cannot give you guidance concerning test
questions and answers or test-taking strategy.
ALTERNATE FLIGHT APTITUDE
SELECTION TEST (AFAST)
The AFAST measures those special aptitudes and personality/
background characteristics that are predictive of success in
Army helicopter flight training.
It is highly effective in screening applicants to ensure
that only those people with the capabilities to succeed in
flight school are accepted for training. It is to your
advantage to score as high as you can on this test. Your
application for flight training will be given further
consideration only if your AFAST score is equal to or
higher than the established minimum score of 90 that is
currently required.
AFAST has a total of 200 questions broken down
into 7 subtests. Each subtest has separate directions and
testing time limits. The following table shows the subtests,
When you go in to take the test, you will be given a
each test section and be told how to mark your answers.
In some subtests, it is to your advantage to answer
every question. In other subtests, a portion of the wrong
answers are counted against the right answers. Even in the
latter case you should make the best choice you can unless
