He had also previouslyserved as president of the SephardicCongregation <strong>and</strong> vice-President of theBoard of Deputies.In 1990 he was elected Chairman of<strong>Telfed</strong>, <strong>and</strong> during his tenure, large fundswere established enabling <strong>Telfed</strong> to financiallyassist members of the communityin need, as well as to institute a ‘Qualityof Life’ programme to provide childrenwith extra-curricular activities. Nick alsoplayed a significant role in the genesisof Beth Protea. Today he serves on the<strong>Telfed</strong> Board of Governors. “The recordsshow that Southern Africans have madean impressive contribution to the developmentof the State <strong>and</strong> my satisfactionis that through my volunteer work at<strong>Telfed</strong>, I have been privileged to play asmall part in their achievements.”Annette Milliner-GiladiAn iconic leader in women’s Zionismin South Africa before her aliya in 1979,Annette Milliner-Giladi was honouredlast year in Cape Town by the Bnoth Zionfor a lifetime of service to the Jewishpeople in Israel <strong>and</strong> South Africa.While Annette has held many top positionsin <strong>Telfed</strong> from chairing the Loans& Assistance, Aliya & Klita <strong>and</strong> Projectscommittees to being the Federation’sVice Chairperson, she says, “It’s not thepositions I have held that have been soimportant to me but my involvementin so many projects <strong>and</strong> activities thathave enriched people’s lives.
