Seniors Week 2010 Program - Pittwater Council

University of the Third Age (U3A)
The U3A is a worldwide educational movement for older people and there are many
programs for the Manly and Peninsula area. These include history, language, drawing,
painting and discussion groups. U3A would like to offer the following events as ‘open
sessions’ for Seniors Week 2010. All three leaders are delighted to have this opportunity
to present a ‘showcase’ of what Manly and Peninsula U3A is about.
An overview of science
This is part of a series of lectures and discussions on a wide range of scientific topics by
guest speakers.

Contemporary Issues
A forum for the discussion of questions of public interest. The course encourages active
participation from all members of the group and each attendee is asked to select a topic of
general interest for discussion.

The Golden Age of Cinema
The film to be shown is “Ninotchka” with Greta Garbo and Melvyn Douglas. It is a delightful
comedy set in Paris before WW2, written by Billy Wilder & Charles Brackett and directed by
Ernst Lubitsch. Publicity at the time of its release in 1939 cried out – “Garbo Laughs” – and
so did the audiences!
