I might bemaking Cabernet Sauvignon, but I’ll use fruit from our Estate Cloneeight while my neighbor grows Clone 337 and I’ll put the twotogether.” Lane also argues that the type of barrel used, the type ofyeast, the various techniques depending on what is called for make allof his wines “blends.”Still, Lane does blend fruit and has come up with some wonderfulsuccesses most of which can only be purchased at the Paso Roblestasting room. “We make a traditional Bordeaux blend of CabernetSauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot that I really like,” he says. It’scalled TreVino. Lane also experimented successfully with a blend ofPinot Noir and Syrah that he calls “Syranot” and it, too, is quitepopular.Bianchi’s main focus has been on the tasting room and on restaurantsbut bottle shops are carrying the wines more and more. Thequality of the fruit combined with Tom Lane’s attention to each varietaland each detail has made the Bianchi name stand out in a crowdedfield.“I don’t actually drink wine every night,” Lane says. “But wecertainly do enjoy it when we do.” The Lane’s have three children, twodaughters who are off pursuing college and careers and a son in highschool as well. Lane’s own advice about enjoying wine could be themotto for Bianchi itself. “The best glass of wine is the one that’senjoyed with family and friends and you’re not focusing so much onthe wine, but on life.” Indeed, quality comes from making somethingthat enhances your customers’ lives.
