Paper and cardboardrecycling practices are in place at <strong>Ambulance</strong>facilities throughout the State in order toreduce greenhouse gas emissions fromwaste deposited to landfill.Other recycling practices include returningused toner cartridges to suppliers forremanufacture and the purchase <strong>of</strong> recycledproducts, including paper, where available.Waste avoidance is promoted throughout<strong>Ambulance</strong> by such means as increasingthe use <strong>of</strong> electronic communication suchas emails and the generation <strong>of</strong> electronicforms; reusing the reverse side <strong>of</strong> paperdocuments printed single sided in printers,facsimiles and copiers; and providinginformation to the public via the internetrather than by the provision <strong>of</strong> printedmaterial. <strong>Ambulance</strong> supports simple waysto be involved in recycling – for examplerecycling old greeting cards by supporting‘CARDS 4 PLANET ARK’ – a free initiative byPlanet Ark and supported by Australia Post.This involved sending cards to Australia Postfor forwarding to a recycling facility wherethey are turned into ‘SAFE’ paper products.Graham McCarthy and Darryn Binkstravelled to the UK on 23 June and returnedon 2 July 2007.
