River Clean-up Activities in Vietnam and Philippines<br />
Indonesia Tree Planting Activities<br />
<strong>Samsung</strong> <strong>Electronics</strong> volunteers conducted<br />
river clean-up activities in commemoration<br />
of World Water Day. In Vietnam, volunteers<br />
removed trash and planted aquatic plants<br />
along the Cau river in partnership with the local<br />
government. In the Philippines, volunteers<br />
conducted clean-up activities along the San<br />
Cristobal river and planted trees around the<br />
plant premises.<br />
The volunteers of <strong>Samsung</strong> <strong>Electronics</strong>’ Indonesia<br />
branch make regular visits to local<br />
orphanages to conduct eco-system protection<br />
education and to plant trees.<br />

Slovakia Children Eco-Class<br />
Slovakia Birdhouse Campaign<br />
In Slovakia, we conducted a birdhouse installation<br />
project to protect rare bird species living<br />
in the vicinity of our operation site. Children<br />
from local communities participated both in<br />
the construction and installation of birdhouses.<br />
The participants were also given lessons on the<br />
importance of the ecosystem and environmental<br />
protection.<br />
In Hungary, we held an employee environmental<br />
protection campaign poster contest and encouraged<br />
the use of bicycles for commuting to<br />
raise awareness on environmental protection.<br />
Africa<br />
Solar-Powered Internet School<br />
Donation of Solar LED Lantern<br />
<strong>Samsung</strong> <strong>Electronics</strong> has created a 100%<br />
solar-powered mobile classrooms named the<br />
‘Solar-powered Internet School’ and supplied<br />
them in Africa.<br />
We also began the supply of solar-powered<br />
LED lanterns, for areas that do not have access<br />
to electricity, in collaboration with the Korea<br />
Volunteer Organization. Manufactured using<br />
durable <strong>Samsung</strong> <strong>Electronics</strong>’ parts including<br />
LEDs, solar panels, and batteries, the LED lantern<br />
is designed to last for more than 10 years<br />
without GHG emissions.<br />
We plan to conduct green communication<br />
activities using our green IT technologies and<br />
provide benefi ts to 5 million African residents<br />
by 2015.
