Traffic and Marine SafetyOPP partner with Ministry of Natural Resources to deliver safe boating messageThe Quinte West OPP and theMinistry of Natural Resourceswill be partnering this summer topromote safety and compliancethrough education andenforcement on our localwaterway.Safety FirstAbout 90% of people who drownin recreational boating incidents are not wearing alifejacket. A lifejacket/PFD is the best insurance you can have so find one that suits your needs andwear it!Drinking and driving, whether on land or water, is against the law and the consequences even for thefirst offence, can last a lifetime. You are responsible for your safety and for not putting otherwaterway users in danger.Stay clear, stay safe around dams, hydroelectric stations and surrounding waters. Remotelyoperated dam gates can quickly turn calm waters or dry riverbeds into dangerous flows.Right: Quinte West OPP Marine OperatorConstable Rob Donohoe (left) andConstable Tony Gabrielli (right) speak withMinistry of Natural Resource ConservationOfficer Kyle Wood and Laurie Allin from theLake Ontario Enforcement Unit inpreparation for the Kiwanis Walleye WorldFishing Derby.Enforcement and education will be a keyfocus for these enforcement officers duringthe summer season.16Police Service Board Report March/April 2013
