Westrive to turn away from sin and to participatein the cross of Christ in a meaningful way.Hopefully as we do so, we also adopt Lentenpractices such as prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. We do these things so that we may trulyprepare our hearts and our minds for the joy ofEaster, for the wonderful celebration of Easter!Students volunteer withthe Empty Bowl Projectto raise money for theTreasure Coast Food Bank.As we work our waytoward the end ofanother school year, Iwish to extend mygratitude to the finefaculty and staff ofour school for theircontinued dedicationand professionalism.Their care for andwork with theirstudents arereally evident in thewonderfulaccomplishments ofour students!The newsletter is written by Jennifer Trefelner.Contributing articles are written byRev. The Coaches’ CornerFrom the Desk of the Athletic Director:<strong>John</strong> <strong>Carroll</strong> had a great winter season in sports. Wecontinue to enjoy the renovated gymnasium with successfulgames this year and are exicted about many more to come.If you have not visited the gym, please stop by see theimprovements. We are still collecting funds for the floorrenovations. If you would like to contribute, please contactme.The girls’ basketball team and Coach Howard Avril qualifiedfor regional semifinals and lost in a heartbreaker toMelbourne Central <strong>Catholic</strong>. Congratulations to all thecoaches, players, and fans on a wonderful season. We arelooking forward to the next year. Congratulations to seniorChristina Mandina, who is competing in the State Finals forthe 3-point shoot-out.The boys’ basketball team, along with Coach Slone and hisVarsity staff, is still in the playoffs and competing in theRegional semifinal. Congratulations on a successfulcampaign.The girls’ soccer team and Coach Marty Horn had a greatyear, as did Coach Mike Howard and the boys’ soccerteam.Coach Mike Easom and the baseball team are excited topick up where they left off at last year’s Regional final. Theyreturn a great team, and we are ready to cheer them on.Coach Rahal and the girls’ softball team have beenpracticing hard and are eager to get their season under way.Coach Joanna Taylor (1978) and Coach Deb Watershave our tennis team practicing and have a great nucleusback.The track team is excited about the upcoming season andplans on sending a few of its members to the statecompetition.<strong>John</strong> <strong>Carroll</strong> sports are well on their way, so we lookforward to seeing all of you out supporting and cheeringyour team on, and remember GO RAMS!Sincerely,Parents’ Guild UpdateDear Parents and Friends,As the year progresses, the Parents’ Guild is gettingbusier. On January 28th, we hosted the Junior RingCeremony reception at St. Anastasia Church. Thestudents were treated to goodie bags and refreshmentsafter mass.We are preparing for a new event this year, the“Top 10% Celebration”, which will be held April 21,<strong>2008</strong>. This ceremony will recognize the top ten percentof students at each grade level based on grade pointaverages. The underclassmen who are recognized mayinvite their families, and the seniors may invite a teacherwho has impacted their life personally, educationally, orspiritually. The seniors will write a personal invitation tothe teachers they choose explaining how they provided apositive influence in their lives. If you are interested inhelping sponsor this celebration, please contact theschool. Our goal is to provide desserts, drinks, and giftsfor each of the students.We will also be providing refreshments at theBaccalaureate Mass Reception on May 19, <strong>2008</strong>. Inaddition to this, the Parents’ Guild decorates theSt. Anastasia Parish Hall, makes a slide show featuringthe seniors, builds a photo area, and helps make a greatenvironment for families to celebrate with theadministration, teachers, and students.As always, we look forward to our biggest event of theyear, Project Graduation (May 21, <strong>2008</strong>). All proceedsfrom our fundraisers go to provide a spectacular allnightparty for the graduating class. This time-honoredtradition cannot be done without countless hours bydedicated volunteers who truly love the students of <strong>John</strong><strong>Carroll</strong>. A Letter from the PrincipalDear Parents, Alumni, and Friends,I would like to start by congratulating Kyle Collins asour Valedictorian and Amy Carr as our Salutatorian.Both students have worked very hard to reach thisaccomplishment and are well-rounded seniors.Construction on this year’s Habitat for Humanity housebegan in January and is now ahead of schedule. At thistime, the home is dried in, and the roof is complete.Next, the students will be painting the house. Thanks tothe numerous volunteers, we are optimistic that the homededication will be in May. Thank you again to JoeyMiller and St. Lucie Battery and Tire for sponsoring thehome. I would also like to recognize religion departmentchair Dominick Scotto (1966) for coordinating thevolunteers, and working with the administrators at theHabitat for Humanity office.Congratulations to Jennifer Trefelner and the 300 ClubCommittee on an outstanding event! The gala raised anet income of $80,000 and is fine tuned every year.This year the Development Office added the element ofpower point presentations to welcome the guests and forthe live auction.I would like to encourage everyone to get involved withthe upcoming golf tournament on April 19, <strong>2008</strong>. In 2004 he graduated from the U.S. MilitaryAcademy at West Point where he majored in Arabicand Middle Eastern history.


As a member of the West Point Glee Club, he sang atCarnegie Hall and at Ground Zero, and he took partwhen the Glee Club recorded a song for the movieWe Are Soldiers. In 2005 at Fort Benning, GA, hegraduated from Ranger <strong>School</strong> and from Airborne<strong>School</strong>. He was stationed at Fort Campbell, KY, andserved 12 months on Iraq in 2005-06. In July 2007,he was promoted to Captain and returned to Iraq inSeptember ready to serve a 15 month tour of duty.Capt. Snyder was assigned to the 101st AirborneDivision, 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1stBrigade Combat Team, Tiger Platoon. Adam is survivedby his younger brother, Evan Frazer, his mother andstepdad, Fran and Larry Frazer (1973), all ofFort Pierce; by his father and stepmom, Joseph andCathy Snyder, of Vero Beach; grandfathers Bob Frazer,of Okeechobee, and Bev Paulson, of Mountain, ND;and by his ‘2nd family’, Pete, Dollie, and Brady Borland,of Fort Pierce.Our deepest sympathies areextended to the family ofElizabeth M. Egan. Elizabeth“Betty”, 78 passed onDecember 6, 2007.
