Our threefold mission is to inspire, educate and enrich the <strong>lives</strong> of our students and theregion <strong>through</strong> training in and the performance of classical ballet.<strong>Central</strong> <strong>Pennsylvania</strong> <strong>Youth</strong> <strong>Ballet</strong> has grown from a small, local <strong>dance</strong> studio into a sprawling 10-studio facility with studios in Carlisle and Lemoyne. More than 20,000 students have passed <strong>through</strong>the esteemed institution. Currently more than 65 alumni occupy positions in highly regarded balletcompanies such as New York City <strong>Ballet</strong>, American <strong>Ballet</strong> Theatre, San Francisco <strong>Ballet</strong>, Boston<strong>Ballet</strong>, Pacific Northwest <strong>Ballet</strong>, Miami City <strong>Ballet</strong>, and <strong>Pennsylvania</strong> <strong>Ballet</strong>, to name only a few.Under the gui<strong>dance</strong> of Marcia Dale Weary, CPYB provides exceptional classical ballet training forbeginning to pre-professional students and enhances the cultural climate of the region <strong>through</strong> balletperformances. In addition to the academic ballet program, CPYB’s Preschool Division offersMusikgarten, pre-ballet, Mommy & Me, Creative Movement and pre-tap classes for children ages15 months to six. The Open Program for the community offers classes and workshops for teens andadults in various <strong>dance</strong> disciplines such as hip hop, Pilates, tap, and ballet.Ms. Weary began producing full-length ballets in the 1960s at the local Carlisle high schoolauditorium with a handful of loyal <strong>dance</strong> enthusiasts. Today more than 12,000 patrons annuallyenjoy the beauty of classical ballet. As the Resident <strong>Ballet</strong> Company of Whitaker Center for Scienceand the Arts in Harrisburg, CPYB’s performing company’s season includes a vast repertoire ofperformances of classical and neo-classical ballets. The company regularly premieres new works bynationally recognized choreographers and is honored as the only pre-professional school in thecountry licensed to perform George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker.Through an expansive program of educational outreach, <strong>Central</strong> <strong>Pennsylvania</strong> <strong>Youth</strong> <strong>Ballet</strong>energizes the region’s school-aged children in the art form of classical <strong>dance</strong>. One of the mostprolific schools in the country, CPYB continually produces <strong>dance</strong>rs for the top companies in theworld. Others have continued on in <strong>dance</strong>-related fields such as ballet teaching and artsadministration. Through the school’s DiscoverDance educational outreach program, first- and second-gradestudents experience classical music, are introduced to fundamentals of ballet, explore therelationship between music and movement, develop good physical exercise habits, and life-longlearning skills. This program is made available at no cost to participating schools.CPYB enriches the diverse Carlisle community and surrounding area <strong>through</strong> its MasterSeries,which exposes patrons to the experience and talent of some of the world’s most accomplished<strong>dance</strong>rs, choreographers, teachers, and coaches. Where OpenRehearsal gets the audience “upclose” to watch the athleticism and beauty as the CPYB troupe prepares for an upcomingperformance, InSights enriches the theatre-goers outing <strong>through</strong> interactive, pre-performanceQ&As.
