Over Christmas break, Katie Yohe ’05and her dad Joe Yohe ’76 went to Ghana.Katie was able to share with her fatherwhere she had spent a year volunteeringand he was able to meet the kids, experiencethe village, and just have all thestories make sense and come to life. Theyvisited an orphanage in the capital cityof Accra, spent a day handing out gifts tochildren in the village of Kasoa, celebratedChristmas with the Sisters and Brothers ofthe Holy Cross, and visited the Cape CoastSlave castle.Jimmy Murphy ’06 and his dad, Bob MurphyJoe Yohe ’76 and his daughter, Katie Yohe ’05Jimmy Murphy ’06 reached the summitof Aconcagua in Argentina this past January.Aconcagua is the highest mountainin the Americas at over 20,000 feet. Thisis Jimmy’s third mountaineering adventure.He and his father have already conqueredKilimanjaro in Africa and Elbrusin Russia.Rob Cherry ’06 is now a Certified PublicAccountant and works as an Associatewith Dixon, Hughes, Goodman LLC inTysons Corner.Devon Metcalf ’08 was one of eightDrexel University softball players to earnNFCA All-America Scholar Athlete accolades.Two O’Connell graduates were honoredwith Virginia Tech’s Aspire! Awards whichrecognize current students who exemplifythe university’s five aspirations for studentlearning—Curiosity, Self-Understanding,Civility, Courageous Leadership and “UtProsim” (that I may serve). Nicole Catalfamo’08 was recognized for her serviceto the community with an “Ut Prosim”award, and Nicholas Roberts ’08 washonored for his Civility.Meet Our Manager of Alumni Relations – Michelle Kannan…and she wants to hear from you! Asmanager of alumni relations, Michelle Kannan’sgoal is to help alumni stay connectedwith their alma mater and their friendsfrom DJO.At her desk she has a complete set ofyearbooks and at her finger tips she hasan alumni database that reaches back toopening day at <strong>Bishop</strong> O’Connell. Michelleis a first stop for reunion planners as theybegin organizing their class reunions. Duringthe school year, she plans other eventsto help alumni feel welcome at DJO. Theseinclude the alumni events at the fall Homecomingfootball game, an informal youngalumni pizza party during Thanksgivingbreak, the springtime Legacy Brunch, andthe All-Alumni Reunion Weekend in June.She also supports the efforts of the AthleticHall of Fame committee to host the annualawards dinner.Michelle works with committees of enthusiasticvolunteers to organize the annualMichelle Kannan interviewed Joe Alonso ’78 at theWashington National Cathedral. Both ofthese events bring alumni, and even parentsof alumni, together for a day of fundraisingfor a great cause.When Michelle is not busy organizingevents, she is keeping alumni up-to-datethrough the monthly e-newsletter,AlumNotes. She also keeps the alumnipages of the school web site current, andworks with class moderators to engagewith their classmates on the Alumni Portalof the web site.If you have alumni news, Michelle is the onewho will make sure it gets into our Knights’Pages magazine.“One of the favorite parts of my job is interviewingalumni for the magazine’s Spotlightsection,” says Michelle. “I am in awe of allthat our alumni have accomplished and amoften amazed at their individual stories.”Michelle came to <strong>Bishop</strong> O’Connell aftertwo years as a development associate at St.Anselm’s Abbey <strong>School</strong> in Washington, D.C.Michelle is originally from St. Petersburg,Fla.
