FROM THE RECREATION COORDINATOR - Wilma Groen
Hello Everyone!
January has passed by quickly, and we are looking forward to the short month of February, when we enjoy Valentine’s
Day this month, as we will have “special” day on Friday, February 10 th to celebrate with Valentine cards,
chocolates and cinnamon hearts. Let the office know if you can join us for a Chinese lunch with Kim Shan. Cost will
be $10.00 per person. We will also have some entertainment, so come out and enjoy this time of fun and fellowship
with each other.
Grandkid’s Day will be on Friday, March 6 th , and we would like you to bring your grandchildren to this
event! We will have fun in the exercise room, as well as some entertainment for everyone!
More details will be available at the Centre by February. Put this day on your calendar, as the places we have
available fill up quickly. Cost for this event will be $4.00 for Children and $9.00 for Adults. Make sure to mark this
date on your Calendar, as we do have limited space for this event!
Wednesday, April 11 th , is Golf Registration Day, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. We will be having our partnership with
Oak Gables again, and hope that every golfer will join our ASAC league and play in our monthly scrambles, as well as
enjoying their excellent rates. Please see Golf prices on page 6, in this Journal for more details.
Our Annual General Meeting is on April 25 th , at 10:30 a.m. Come out and find out what your Advisory
Board has been planning for the future for your Centre. This is the day to find out about the work that is involved to
keep your Centre an active and viable place to keep us all Young! All the members on the Committees work hard
to keep the Centre running smoothly, and Staff are always here to help everyone so that they enjoy their leisure time,
to take classes that they find fulfilling to learn something that they find of interest! We have a booklet available for
everyone so that they can see the operations of the Centre and you might be interested in volunteering by working on
one of the Committees, who hold monthly meetings. Please sign up at the office, as we need a quorum for this meeting,
and we also have a lunch provided for everyone that attends, compliments of your Board of Directors, so we need
to know the numbers.
Check out some “New” trips on our Trip Board, as we do have trips going to China, and the price is spectacular.
See page 27 for more information. We also have some trips from Maxima Tours and Regency Tours so check out
the “Trip Section” on Page 17, and go somewhere exciting this year! 2012 will go by quickly enough and going new
places will enhance your knowledge of the world we live in, as well as enjoyment by meeting different people and
places. We will be having a trips presentation to Ireland by Collette Tours on Wed. Feb. 8th, 2012 @ 1:00pm.
Take advantage of some “NEW” classes, like Paper Tole and Mosaics. Nordic Walking, Hiking and Biking
will start again in April, so watch for signs at the Centre! You can also Dance, Exercise, Sing. or learn to play the Ukulele,
or on an electronic Musical Keyboard to keep everyone Happy and Healthy for the whole year! Check out our
Craft classes, Painting Classes, Music, or just come out for some social events like Pot Luck Lunch, Cards, Scrabble,
Chit Chat Club, Writing your Life Story, or Computer Classes.
“MEMORIAL DONATIONS”
A very special thank you to the families of our late members who, at a very
difficult time in their lives, have remembered the Centre in different ways
— by mentioning their loved one’s membership here at the Centre and
by suggesting donations may be made to the
Special Projects Fund.
Our best wishes for a speedy recovery to those not in the best of health!
We have a limited number of bricks
still available for sponsorship at $100.00 each
The “Corporate” Portion of our Brick Wall still has spots available - this is for donations of
between $1,000 and $4,999 (bronze); between $5,000 and $9,999 (silver); and $10,000 and above (gold).
We are keeping track of all donations received since the beginning of our Brick Wall project (that have not been
acknowledged with either a Brick or a Teddy Bear) and once an individual’s donations reach the $1,000 mark
they will be acknowledged on the “Corporate” wall.
Thanks to all who support the Centre’s fundraising efforts
Tax Receipts will be issued for all donations.
INFORMATION CHANGES: Please let us know if you’ve moved or changed your phone number, doctor, emergency
contact, etc.
FOOD SHARE: We have a box at the Centre for donations to the food share and we welcome all donations. Many thanks to all who
donated. Our donations have been acknowledged, with thanks.
SUGGESTION BOX: Just a reminder that the suggestion box is on the wall in the main hallway, and we are always
open to suggestions.
ALUMINUM TABS: We still collect aluminum tabs (from pop cans), which we pass on to the groups who collect the tabs.
Our donations have already helped in purchasing several wheelchairs. 2½ million are needed for one wheelchair.
BOUTIQUE: Remember we still have gifts of various types available in our boutique area now located in the Main Hall.
REGISTER TAPES: We accept ZEHRS. Please separate your tapes into groups.
We DO NOT COLLECT: Ron’s Food Basics, the Barn or Fortino’s. They do not participate in the Save-A-Tape program. If you
include them it makes it more difficult for our volunteers who then have to check every tape.
We meet on Tuesdays to sit and chat
We chat about this and we chat about that
We all look forward to seeing each other
Seven sisters but only one brother
We listen to the others woes and understand their plight
We have all been there once or twice
But never gave up the fight
So lets give thanks for the friendship we share
And the time we spend as a group
And each and everyone of us will never break the loop
ASAC CHRISTMAS PARTIES 2011
Both our Christmas Parties were a hugh success.
Thank you to all our Music Groups & their leaders,
for their talents, that were enjoyed by everyone. Santa
and his Elf were also appreciated, as we know that
everyone was on their best behaviour all year!!

Open daily Monday to Thursday 9:30 to 1:00 pm
POT LUCK LUNCHES
I just wanted to let all our Pot Luck people know, that if you do not feel like cooking, there are other alternatives.
You could pick up some sliced cold meat, salads, jellos, possibly a meat pie, or other frozen entrée, (and heat it in the
oven before you come); or ice cream, pies, (the bakeries in the stores do some great baking)!!
This would help our Staff who are now spending some valuable time cooking, instead of doing their own particular
jobs. This makes it hard to find the time to do everything. Please see if these ideas will work for you, as it would definitely
work for the Centre.
