*THE PRODUCERS” at Chanhassen Dinner Theatre
Producer/Director Mel Brooks took a real gamble when he adapted his 1968 film satire to
the musical stage. The story was utterly outrageous: flop- covered theatrical produce
Max Bialystok realizes the road to his financial redemption lies in producing the worst
musical ever written, raising $25,000 of the capital, and pocketing it all when the show is
a one-night-only disaster. Aided and abetted by a timid accountant, Leo Bloom,
Bialystok options the rights to a “gay romp with Adolf and Eva in Berchtesgarten” called
“Springtime for Hitler”. Of course, if the show, by some insane stretch of credulity, were
to become a hit, Bialystok and Bloom would be thrown in jail. And that’s exactly what
happens! Winner of a record-breaking 12 Tony Awards, The Producers was remade into
a popular movie musical in 2006. It closed on Broadway in April 2007. Chanhassen
Dinner Theatres is one of three elite regional theatres in the U.S. to receive the rights to
produce The Producers. A delicious lunch is included and will be served before the
production.
Whitewater State Park is the Whitewater Wildlife Management
Area. Together
these two large pieces of public land provide a rich natural
resource base for a
diversity of educational and recreational activities.
Location: Half way between Rochester and Winona on Highway 74 north of St. Charles.
State park vehicle permits are required,
which are available at all state park offices,
and cost $5
per day, $25 for regular annual or $12 for a handicap
annual.
About Our Classes:
Park interpretive services use local natural and cultural resources to tell stories of the valley and the
watershed. These activities are designed to stimulate increased interest, understanding and appreciation of
the area's
resources and how they relate to wider environmental issues.
There is no charge for most
activities, but State park vehicle permits are required. Most activities begin in the park at the Whitewater
Valley Visitor Center.
