Defra’s long-standing advice that electricity from renewable sources such as wind and solar should be assumed to give rise to zeroCO2 emissions has changed. This eliminates the incentive to purchase renewable electricity at a premium. We believe that generatingand purchasing renewable electricity can make an important contribution to reducing our CO2 emissions, which is why we are reportingour carbon emissions against our original carbon neutrality commitment. If the benefit of purchased electricity from renewable sources isexcluded, this would increase MAG’s emissions by 47,038 tonnes.The data represents MAG’s total CO2 emissions as covered by our Carbon Neutral Commitment. This includes Scope 1 (oil, gas andvehicle fuel),Scope 2 (electricity with green tariff treated as zero CO2 as outlined in our original commitment) and some Scope 3 (electricity,heating oil and fuel supplied to third-party tenants).The Manchester Airport Group PLC Annual Report and Accounts 2010-11
