Five members.Recreation Committee (Dissolved in 2008) The Recreation Committee works with thecommunity, the Board of Selectmen, the Town Administrator and the RecreationDirector to improve and/or expand recreational programming and facilities through acommitment to provide quality recreation programs to all population groups in the Townof Orleans. Five members.Renewable Energy/Wind Committee – The Renewable Energy/Wind Committee ischarged with addressing and reviewing renewable energy/wind power options that meetthe goals and objectives established by the Board of Selectmen and by thedevelopment efforts of prior committees. Seven membersShellfish and Waterways Improvement Advisory Committee – Serves as anadvisory committee to the Board of Selectmen on all matters relating to the Town’sshellfish beds. Nine members.Site Plan Review Committee - Reviews commercial development projects involvingnew construction, significant additions, and changes of use and is authorized by theZoning Bylaw to ensure that all development plans meet the review criteria and are incompliance with Town regulations.Wastewater Management Steering Committee – Will conduct wastewatermanagement study for Town of Orleans and present final report with implementationrecommendations to the Board of Selectmen upon completion of the study. Fivemembers.Wastewater Management Validation & Design Committee – With the October 2008Town vote to approve a Comprehensive Wastewater Management Plan (CWMP) and inorder to prepare for the design and construction phases articulated in the plan, thefollowing activities are to be accomplished. Conducting an independent technicalreview of the School of Marine Science and Technology Report on Pleasant Bay.Validating that economically viable opportunities for reducing nitrogen in groundwater toprotect estuaries and embayments have been fully explored and to guide the outcomeof these activities and continue to work toward the final design and construction ofnecessary treatment facilities in a timely and orderly manner. Seven members with onefrom the Wastewater Management Steering Committee.Zoning Board of Appeals – Hears applications and petitions for Special Permits andVariances and makes determinations for granting or denying same under theconstraints of the Zoning By-Laws of the Town and Mass. General Laws, Chapter 40A.Hears and decides appeals from decisions of the zoning administrator. Five regularmembers plus three associate members.Zoning Bylaw Task Force – Reviews the Orleans Zoning Bylaw on an ongoing basisto identify areas for improvement, resolve discrepancies, draft new sections as neededand expand and clarify definitions.
