Watchmakers of Switzerland Training and Educational ProgramCentre Suisse de formation et de perfectionnement horlogerIf you are an experienced watchmaker and believe in your profession, are convinced that quality watches mustbe serviced by highly qualified watchmakers, then this course is for you.Our technical trainers are experienced professionals and you will experience the Swiss horological tradition aswell as see how it meets with the future.Dates and durationJanuary - May 2014 (exact dates remain to be set); 20 weeks – 840 hoursCondition of admissionParticipants must have followed a watchmaking school and have a complementary experience in watchrepairing.Watchmakers without such basic training, must have a minimum of 3 years full-time experience inwatch-repairing.The candidates may undergo a 2-day test at <strong>WOSTEP</strong>.Price (<strong>WOSTEP</strong> reserves the right to modify the following prices)The CHF 6’850.- tuition fee includes the following (without accommodation) :• Tuition, administrative support and expenses• Toolkit and theory book of horology(The purchase of this kit is mandatory but will remain the property of the student after the course)• Special courses on specific products and visits of factories• Resources (infrastructure such as : tools, machines, movements, spare parts)Additional costs :The amount of CHF 2’100.- is required as a prepaid financial guarantee by the State of Neuchâtel to assureyour domestic needs and will be refunded to you on a monthly basis.Accommodation costs in a shared apartment adequately equipped for 3 roommates for 5 months :• CHF 3’000.- for a room in category A (15/16m 2 ) = CHF 600.-/month (based on availability)• CHF 2’625.- for a room in category B (13/14m2) = CHF 525.-/month (based on availability)• CHF 2’250.- for a room in category C (11/12m 2 ) = CHF 450.-/month (based on availability)Should you want something larger or more independent, we will provide you some agencies’ numbers andweb sites able to help you in your search.Please note that the tuition fee for each student would be CHF 22'500.-. However, the members of the<strong>WOSTEP</strong> Foundation, who financially support our school, will pay the difference for the selected students.They have one aim in common : to perpetuate the tradition and to insure the future of the watchmakingprofession.ExaminationsThere are 3 practical intermediate examinations. Watchmakers of Switzerland Training and Educational ProgramCentre Suisse de formation et de perfectionnement horloger<strong>WOSTEP</strong> Program for higher study in watch-repairing (may be modified at any time)Mechanical watches :Different sizes and types of movements.• Gear Train Fitting of the gear train, truing of wheels, jewel setting andadjustment, quality of jewels, oiling.• Winding and setting Assembly of barrels (simple and automatic), upper and lowermechanism, calculation and control of sizes of mainspring,slipping of the mainspring bridles, oiling and greasing.• Escapement Study of the functions, adjustments, fitting of pallet jewels,rollers, guard pins, banking pins, corrections and exerciseson faulty escapements.• Timing Fitting of balance staff and roller, truing and poising,exercises of manipulation of the hairspring, colleting,vibrating and fitting of the stud.• Regulation Different positions and forces.Dynamic poising.Use of different timing machines.Fine regulation.Automatic and calendar watches :Study and assembly of different systems available.Chronographs :• Study of different types of chronographs.• Column wheel.• Cam system.• Vertical clutch system.• Modular systems.• Automatic chronographs.Electronic watches :Specialists give practical and theoretical courses at our school, or infactories. The latest products of the Swiss watch industry are studied,this covers most of the range manufactured in Switzerland. Various :• Repairing During the course, each student is acquainted with differentmethods of watch repairing and workshop organization.• Visits <strong>WOSTEP</strong> students visit different factories, watch institutionsand museums representing the many facets of the Swisswatch industry.Conferences :Theory :Practice :Conferences on special subjects in relation to watchmakingand servicing are part of the program.Theory is given in parallel with the practical work and eachsubject is studied. Literature, service manuals and technicaldocumentation are available to each student for thispurpose.<strong>WOSTEP</strong> also has a large library on various horologicalsubjects.The program is mainly based on practical work at the benchenabling students to master all types of mechanical andelectronic watches.
