Meet the Pioneers<br />

5 JIM RANSON, G, 6-3, 180, Frosh, 18, Pueblo, Colorado<br />

Jim joins the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Denver</strong> squad after an impressive<br />

high school career at Pueblo South High School in<br />

Colorado.<br />

He is an outstanding outside shooter and could give the<br />

Pioneers a strong scoring guard this season. He played for<br />

coach Chuck DePietro in Pueblo while earning all-city honors<br />

as both a junior and senior. He averaged 19.7 points per<br />

game.<br />

He also was honored as a member <strong>of</strong> the All-state Tourney<br />

team last season as he posted the fourth best scoring<br />

average in the tournament.<br />

His other honors as a basketball player include his team's<br />

most valuable player award, all-conference, all-state,<br />

Western All-American and the South Central League scoring<br />

championship.<br />

He was a member <strong>of</strong> the South squad in the 1975 North­<br />

South high school all-star and poured through 26 points in the<br />

South's losing effort to the North.<br />

His biggest game came last year against Cherry Creek<br />

High School in the state play<strong>of</strong>fs when he handed out 10<br />

assists while scoring 28 points himself.<br />

His father coached the rival Pueblo Central team and Jim<br />

hit 14 and 28 points in those games.<br />

He is the son <strong>of</strong> Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie Ranson <strong>of</strong> Pueblo,<br />

Colorado.
