Home Game Information GAME SITE: The University of Denver Field House is located between E. Jewell Ave. and Asbury. Access to the Field House is easily made by taking Interstate 25 to University Blvd. south exit and turning west on E. Jewell Ave. A large parking area is located just north of the Field House-Arena complex. GAME TIME: All University of Denver home games will begin at 7:30 p.m. with the exception of Texas-Arlington (Jan. 10), Tulane (Jan. 24), and Samford (Feb.21). Those games will begin at 3 p.m. TEAM UNIFORMS: The University of Denver colors are red and gold. The Pioneers will wear white uniforms, trimmed in red at home. On the road, Denver will dress in red uniforms, trimmed in gold and white. OFFICIALS: Game officials for the University of Denver basketball games will be assigned by the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. VISITING TEAM TICKETS: Contact Chuck Bacon, athletic ticket manager, at 303-753-2336. PRACTICE: The University of Denver Field House is available for practice use by visiting teams provided that arrangements are made in advance. Visiting teams should contact AI Harden, basketball coach, at 753-2275. DRESSING ROOM: Visiting teams will dress upstairs in the Field House area. The University of Denver, oldest and largest private institution of higher education in the Rocky Mountains, is located in the southeast part of Denver, the capital of Colorado. Granted a charter by the territorial government of Colorado in 1864 as Colorado Seminary, the school first opened its doors to a mining town population of 3,500. A faculty of three handled the enrollment of students during that first year, and classes were held for three years until the school·closed down due to financial problems. But in 1880, the school was reorganized as a degree-granting institution. Since then, the Colorado Seminary and the University of Denver have continued to operate as one institution. The real estate holding are in the name of Colorado Seminary; the academic program is conducted by the University of Denver. The school began its move to the present location in 1892, when the liberal arts school moved to what is now known as "Old Main," University Hall. Its cornerstone was laid in 1890 and the building still stands. Gradually all the schools which were located downtown have been moved to the University Park area, just six miles from downtown Denver. Only the College of Law remains in the city, adjacent to the City and County Building as well as the Capitol. A faculty of over 500 now teaches at the school, which has grown to an enrollment of better than 8,000. Through its outstanding academic program, the University of Denver has gained national and international recognition. The University's first organized athletic team was fielded in football in 1884. Baseball, track and tennis were soon The University of Denver added. And basketball became an intercollegiate sport in 1904. Since then the University has sponsored intercollegiate teams in skiing, ice hockey, gymnastics, swimming, golf, cross country and vtrestling. The most recent additions to the program have been soccer, lacrosse and women's sports. 7
