Meet the Pioneers
3 LYLE WILKINS, G, 6-1,165, Soph, 19, New York, New
York
Lyle will be a real "veteran" for the Pioneers this season
after playing in 25 of Denver's 26 games last year. He was a
letterwinner for coach AI Harden last season, although only a
freshman.
He graduated from Birch Wathon High School in New York
where he was coached by Dave Close. He was named to the
high school all-star team three consecutive years for his prep
play and was also the most valuable player for his prep team.
His most memorable high school basketball moment came
when he broke a city scoring record, pouring in 65 points in
one game. He played just under 20 minutes in accomplishing
the feat. Sports Illustrated Magazine recognized Lyle's accomplishment
by making him a member of its "Faces in the
Crowd" section.
Lyle likes to attend the movies and date the girls when he's
not around the basketball floor.
He was a pleasant addition to the Pioneers last season as
he averaged better than seven points a game. He is being
counted on by coach AI Harden to supply some needed experience
and stability in the back court this season.
He is the son of Barbara Wilkins of New York.
