News SWAG Sale / Confi dence in Alpacas / Vet Conference
SWAG SALE 2005
Members of the South West Alpaca
Group have decided to change the
format of their Annual Collective Sale
on Saturday 2nd April 2005.
Instead of having an Auction, SWAG
Members will be bringing alpacas
they wish to sell to the Bristol Sales
Centre where they can be shown
to prospective purchasers and will
negotiate the Sale of their alpacas
privately.
This type of Sale is bound to
enhance the relationship between
breeders and purchasers to the benefi t
of all concerned, not least the alpacas.
The advantage to the purchaser is
the wide range of alpacas to choose
from under one roof, from a variety
of Breeders. Of course the Breeders
have the advantage of reaching many
potential clients and promoting their
Alpacas.
There will be lectures and
demonstrations on all aspects of
keeping alpacas, Breeder and Trade
Stands and over sixty alpacas to see,
feel and learn about – it is expected to

ALPACA INDUSTRY
EP Cambridge, the largest and arguably
the most successful alpaca stud in
Australasia, has demonstrated great
confi dence in the UK alpaca industry
with the purchase this month of fi fty
percent of Arunvale Alpacas.

VETERINARY CONFERENCE
A camelid conference for veterinarians
will be held in Corvallis, Oregon, on
March 3–6, 2005, followed by a neonatal
seminar for owners on March 6th.
The 2005 International Camelid
Conference has assembled a
programme of nineteen speakers from
across the US and the world to cover
a variety of topics regarding New
World Camelid Medicine, Surgery,
Reproduction, Nutrition, Parasites,
Infectious Disease, and Physiology.
A companion vet lab will offer
opportunities for veterinarians and
technicians to practice some basic
techniques, including physical
examination, venipuncture, catheter
placement, abdominocentesis,
liver biopsy, spinal taps, ultrasound
examination, orogastric intubation and
other techniques.
