BCN Advisory Council Executive CommitteeThe BCN Advisory Council Executive Committee held its bi-annualmeeting on October 15, 2010, at <strong>Rinker</strong> Hall. Present for the meetingwere Bob Angle, John Bennett, Lynne Capece, Abdol Chini,Tim Good, John Gooding, Paul Hardaker, Dale Hedrick, Sid Jordan,John McIntyre, Harley Miller, Jeff Nelson, Paul Oppenheim,Pete Pace, Steve Palmer, Chip Reid, Erik Sharpe, John S<strong>of</strong>arelli,Ray Southern, Rob <strong>Spring</strong>er, WayneWadsworth, and Karl Watson, Jr.- Dean Chris Silver joined the meetingvia Skype to provide an update onthe searches for the <strong>School</strong> Directorand the Shimberg Research Pr<strong>of</strong>essor.- The Committee approved the suggestedchanges in its by-laws, increasingthe number <strong>of</strong> members fromtwenty-one to twenty-five. The committeealso considered nominationsand voted to select the following asnew members: Christine Beaudoin,Kiewit; David Schmit, Macauley +Schmit; Doug Wilcox, Scherer Construction<strong>of</strong> North Florida; and EarleCooper, Hawkins Construction.- A new Student/Facutly Liaisonsubcommittee has been formed toprovide a closer relationship betweenthe BCN Students/Faculty andEXCOM. On the evening before thefall EXCOM meeting, ten BCN CollegeCouncil student members metwith ten <strong>of</strong> the EXCOM members for dinner. The purpose <strong>of</strong> themeeting was to provide an outlet <strong>of</strong> expression for the student viewson their educational experience at <strong>Rinker</strong> and provide a mechanismfor discussion on industry trends. Both EXCOM members andstudents were thrilled at the instant connection and rapport that thismeeting provided. They were excited to continue bi-annual meetings<strong>of</strong> this type and plan to meetagain during the <strong>Spring</strong> <strong>2011</strong> EX-COM meeting.- The Committee has asked DeanSilver to organize a meeting betweenthe EXCOM and UF Provostso that the Provost can be informed<strong>of</strong> the views and activities <strong>of</strong> theEXCOM.- The EXCOM members who representtheir local BCN alumni clubprovided a report <strong>of</strong> their activities.As a result <strong>of</strong> the different clubfundraising, over $120,000 wasraised in 2010. These clubs set agoal <strong>of</strong> raising $1.3 million to createan endowed pr<strong>of</strong>essorship. Christine Beaudoin is the FL Area Chief Estimator & Engineer;Earle (BCN 1977) is Executive Vice President <strong>of</strong> HawkinsConstruction in Tarpon <strong>Spring</strong>s FL; Dave (BCN 1983) is Principal<strong>of</strong> Macauley & Schmit in Atlanta GA; and Doug (BCN 1989)is President <strong>of</strong> Scherer Construction <strong>of</strong> North Florida.The <strong>Rinker</strong> <strong>School</strong> would like to express our deepest appreciationto newly elected EXCOM emeritus members Bill Morthlandand Louie Wise III for their dedication and support <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Rinker</strong><strong>School</strong> throughout the years <strong>of</strong> service as EXCOM members.
