This turns out to be an excellent move. Increasingindustrialisation leads to a growing need for lift trucks, a demand thatThermote & Vanhalst is very capable of handling. TVH also starts to selloutside of Europe. Slowly but surely, TVH is growing into a globalplayer. Common sense, a feel for doing international business and avision on IT solutions and automation are vital assets for TVH’s furthergrowth. TVH also becomes the exclusive importer for Daewoo(today Doosan) lift trucks in Belgium and Luxemburg.THE ALL-ROUND SUPPLIERThe demand for internal transport equipment continues to grow.Hand pallet trucks, hand trollies, lifting cranes, and so on, are addedto the range. With the setting up of a rental division, the group slowlybut surely grows into an all-round supplier. Around the turn of thecentury, it is decided to build new premises in Waregem to gathertogether all the activities under one roof. TVH has five specialiseddivisions: forklifts, parts, handling equipment, rental equipment andservice & repair. The day-to-day management is now handed over bythe founders to the second generation.In 2007, nearly 2,000 people work at TVH.10

It also contains a lot of usefulinformation and tips on alternative waysto come to work. Through sustainablemobility, the employees as well as theemployers can save costs, the CO2-emissionis reduced and there is less traffic. On top ofthat, employees receive an increased taxbenefit.Waste managementWhen products such as batteries, tyres, oiland industrial packaging materials are produced,they also have to be disposed of atthe end of their life cycle. Most disposablepackaging has been replaced by more sustainablepackaging. Only 3% of the packagingat TVH is not recyclable. In additionto the above products, TVH also has todispose of at least 30 other different kindsof waste, amongst which product remainders,metal, wood, construction waste, …To fight the environmental pollution, TVHengages to dispose of its waste in a sustainableway. Last year, 2,863 tons of therubbish has been recycled, 740 tons wastaken to a sorting installation for furthersorting and 3 tons could be composted.Dangerous materials are given a specificallocation.
