John Baumann ’61
HOMECOMING MARKS 50TH ANNIVERSARY FOR ALUMNUS • John
Baumann ’61 celebrated his 50th reunion at Homecoming and was a class
agent. Congratulations to John for doing a great job of organizing the Class
of 1961 to return to campus.
Benny Hale of the Wagon Wheel
MEMORIES FROM THE WAGON WHEEL • As Homecoming 2011
approached, the question was posed to alumni—what is your favorite
memory of the Wagon Wheel? Here’s what you had to say.
Brock Heinz ’01: For my brother’s bachelor party, I had hoped to order
50 Wagonmasters from Benny. At the time, they were about three bucks a
piece, and I figured he’d cut me a deal because I was ordering in bulk. When
I asked how much it would be, he told me more than $150 because it was a
pain for him to make so many.
Kim Owsley Bozek ’82: Walking through thigh-high snow (classes were
canceled) to go to Benny’s and have a beer and burger, and of course play
the bowling machine. Some people actually met people there 30 years ago,
and are still happily married!
Mark Behnke ’80: In 2001, my wife and I went to a meeting at
Saint Joseph’s College, and as we were leaving we stopped to have a
Wagonmaster at the Wagon Wheel. Our daughter was just four months old.
Being that we’re from Michigan, I didn’t realize children were not allowed
in bars in Indiana. Anyway, Benny literally chased us out of the bar and
explained to us that he’d be in big trouble if he got caught with a baby in his
establishment. My wife waited in the car while I ordered, and we consumed
the best burgers ever and laughed about being run out of the Wagon Wheel.
Sue Champa-Seminerio ’80: Dewey and Leon Biggs bringing us latenight
fresh fried catfish right from the farm.
