THE LEGEND CONTINUES
Bear Archery grew out of the life and work of legendary sportsman Fred Bear. Fred was
our friend, mentor, hero and pioneer; he paved the way for generation after generation
of traditional bow hunters. Fred founded Bear
Archery in 1933 which quickly flourished due to
his dedication and passion for archery and the
outdoors. Seventy-eight years later, Fred’s legacy
continues. His determination and inspiration are
felt by each and every employee at Bear Archery,
which is why we continue to craft the highest
quality bows.
This year we are proving that the ambition and
spirit of a man that once walked these halls is alive
and well at Bear Archery. We take great pride in
knowing that our bows still come off the same
presses that Fred designed and used during his
time. These bows are still hand-crafted the same
way they have been for years.
We are thankful everyday that Mr. Bear turned his passion into his career and his visions
into reality, paving the path for todays traditional bow hunters. We are reminded of his
continuing legacy everyday as we strive to honor the pioneer of traditional archery -
Mr. Fred Bear.

Modeled after the famous Kodiak bow, the Kodiak
Magnum was first introduced in 1961 as a bow
hunters dream due to its short length and easy
maneuverability. The design stuck and it has been around
ever since.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the famous Kodiak
Magnum. In honor of this historic event we put everything
back into this bow, so it would be a near perfect match
to the original. The high leather classic side plate is back
along with the silver medallion. Good luck telling this apart
from one of 50 years ago.

Construction
The 3-piece riser construction of the Super Kodiak is
made from exotic bubinga wood. Limbs are overlaid
with clear maple and backed and faced with high

Nineteen sixty seven marked the end of an era and
the beginning of a new one at Bear Archery, after
17 years of production the Super Kodiak replaced
the very popular Kodiak line of bows.
The excitement built around this bow was so great that a
1967-1/2 catalog was printed just to introduce this new
bow. The same design and craftsmanship has stayed true
over the past 44 years making this bow a legend just like
the man who once mastered it.
Fred used this model bow for many years on quests for
African lion, cape buffalo, Alaskan polar bear and the
British Columbia grizzly bear. Still to this day the Super
Kodiak is one of the smoothest, finest shooting bows
available.

Mr. Bear brought about many innovations to
the archery industry, but perhaps his proudest
moment came in 1969 when production first
began on his famous TakeDown recurve bow.
The classic design was years ahead of it's time and still to
this day you hear people saying there simply is no finer
TakeDown. Not only does this bow pack easy, but it
shoots and feels like a dream.
This legendary, but modern design is available in both A
and B riser’s giving you plenty of versatility. Mr. Bear
hunted with this bow almost entirely until his last hunt.

In 1966 Bear introduced the bow they said could not be
made- a 48” hunting bow proudly called the Bear
Super Magnum 48. Over 40 years later it remains a
proven product for those who need a short hunting bow no
matter the situation.
This bow is built for hunting out of ground blinds,
tree-stands or shooting carp out of a Jon boat.

SUPERMAG 48 CHEYENNE
"With a gun you can hunt deer an average of 3 weeks a year. With a bow you can hunt an average
of 10 weeks depending upon the state you hunt in" - Fred Bear.
First introduced in 2002 the Cheyenne project was
brought about between father and son. Grant Neil
Byce II came out of retirement to work on this
special project with his son Grant Neil Byce III, currently
Bear Archery's Operations Manager.
Having worked for Bear for 33 years, 11 of those as Mr.
Bear’s master bowyer, the senior Byce knows a thing or
two about bow design.
The overall AMO length of 55” is just enough to handle
the swept back style limbs of the TakeDown, while the grip
is designed to feel full in the hand while incorporating the
half-moon styling, that is reminiscent of Fred’s favorite
bows of the early 60's.

PATRIOT MONTANA
Bear Archery and Byron Ferguson teamed up in
2002 in support of the legend Fred Bear and to
promote the sport of traditional archery. Nine
years later the relationship between Bear and Byron is
stronger than ever.
Byron, a trick shot specialist and renowned hunter worked
with Bear Archery on the design of the Patriot long bow.
The design was created by Byron and is currently
manufactured by Bear Archery. The design utilizes the
Bear look along with the characteristics of a bow laid out
by Byron. This partnership has spawned a spectacular
shooting bow sure to please anyone wanting a high
performance long bow.

Construction
This 64” full fisted longbow is reflexed and power packed,
fashioned and handcrafted from brown and black dymond

GRIZZLY
It is hard to imagine how many memories the famous
Grizzly recurve bow will conjure up of days spent
afield. The Grizzly is one legendary bow that has been
proving itself since 1950 and is still to this day an important
offering in our traditional line up. Mr. Bear made the last
design change to the Grizzly in 1964 and we aren’t
planning on changing that any time soon.

SUPER
GRIZZLY
Feast your eyes upon this, new for 2011, the Super
Grizzly. This bow was first introduced in 1973
and was only manufactured until 1976. The Super
Grizzly is known by its distinctive “Team Bear Crusader
Red Regimented Stripe and bow tip”, at least that is the
way it was described back in the 70s.
What makes the Super Grizzly “Super” besides its distinct
appearance? The Super Grizzly's performance is
extraordinary, having 2 layers of lamination in the limbs
gives you a better feeling, better shooting bow without
hand shock. The performance is so outstanding we suggest
you get your hands on one of these soon, because just like
in the 70s, who knows how long they will be available.

AUSABLE KODIAK CUB
Brand new for 2011 is the AuSable long bow, named
after the AuSable River - the home of the Grayling,
Michigan Bear Archery plant. Whether canoeing or
fly-fishing Fred spent many hours on the AuSable River; it
is safe to say that Fred Bear probably came up with many
of his brilliant ideas paddling up and down those waters.
What sets the AuSable long bow apart is it’s reflex/
deflex design, larger sight window, full radiused grip and
crowned, cut on center arrow shelf. The 64” length and
bamboo core limbs make this one high performance

In 1989 I was hired on at Bear Archery as customer service manager and shooting staff manager.
Since that time my roles at Bear Archery have changed, but it has always been a honor to work
for the company that Mr. Bear started.
Not many people have the opportunity to meet their idol and make a living with their hobby.
I feel blessed to have done both.
