Bearing arrangement constructionSNC bearing housings are designed to hold self-aligning roller or ball bearings. The choice of bearing typeand the design of the bearing arrangement depend primarily on the type of application.Bearings with cylindricalboreBearings with taperedboreRolling bearings with a cylindrical bore are mounteddirectly on the shaft. The selected shaft toleranceshould depend on the application and the bearingsused. The inner ring of the rolling bearing must besupported against a shaft shoulder.The bearing must always be fitted securely onto theshaft. For easy, safe and quick mounting of thebearings, we recommend the use of an SNR inductionheating device.Information about this can be found in the SNRMaintenance Services catalogue.Rolling bearings with a tapered bore are mountedon the shaft using an adapter sleeve. The tolerancefield of the shaft can be greater than for bearingswith a cylindrical bore. Basically, any drawn shaftsproduced in the tolerance field h9 can be used. Theinner ring of the bearing is fixed on the sleeve byaxial preload. Adherence to the specified radialbearing clearance after mounting must be ensured.The relevant values can be found in the table onPage 28.Bearings with a cylindrical bore are particularlywell suited for:• Applications in which large axial loads have tobe absorbed;• Series mounting• Bearing arrangements that are exposed tosignificant shock loads.Bearings with a tapered bore are particularly wellsuited for:• Bearing locations in which the exact position ofthe bearing is not known in advance;• Applications that have to proceed withoutmachining of the shafts;• Constructions that do not allow any weakeningof the shafts;• Bearing arrangements that are adapted to particularoperating conditions by adjusting thebearing clearance.18
