IntroductionFremantle Ports has a Planning Approval and Assessment process whichapplies to all proposed development or uses by Fremantle Ports and itstenants on land and waters at both the Inner and Outer harbours.Further information and documentation can be found on Fremantle Port’swebsite www.fremantleports.com.auWhen to contact Fremantle Ports Planning BranchOnce it has been determined that a development is to take place, contact withthe Port Planner or Planning Manager should be made. Once initial contacthas been made and any queries answered, the Planning Approval applicationform and application checklist along with required documentation is to besubmitted.Planning Assessment and Approval ProcessStep 1Contact Fremantle Ports Planning Branchon (08) 9430 3471 to discuss proposalStep 2Submit application form and checklistalong with required information listed onthe checklistStep 3Proposal is circulated internally andassessedStep 4Applicant receives a written response fromFremantle Portrs advising of the outcomeand an invoice for the assessment2
How do I know if I need to submit an Application for Planning Approval?There are circumstances where Planning Approval may not be required.These exemptions can be found in the Planning Guidelines which can beviewed at www.fremantleports.com.au. In all other circumstances PlanningApproval is a requirement. If there are any uncertainties please contactFremantle Port’s Planning Branch on (08)9430 3471.Who assesses and approves my Planning Application?The Planning Branch at Fremantle Ports receives the applications andinternally circulates these to the relevant officers for specialist assessment.Once responses have been received and conditions set the Planning Branchcombines the information, completes and issues the Planning Approval.What information do I need to provide Fremantle Ports with my PlanningApplication?To assist Fremantle Ports with the Planning Approval process, an applicationchecklist has been created and is available on Fremantle Port’s website. Allnecessary information required is listed. The most significant of these are the Planning Guidelines. There are twoparts to the Planning GuidelinesPart One - Planning Approval: This outlines exemptions to the process, fees,how to make an application and what to submitPart Two - Development Criteria: This identifies issues that need to beaddressed when preparing an application for Planning Approval, for example,building setbacks, landscaping and car parking requirements.The Buffer Guidelines and Landscape Style Guide also play important parts inthe Planning Approval process.
