students liv<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> poverty are 2 to 3 years beh<strong>in</strong>d whites and Asians <strong>in</strong> academic achievement. The disparity some<br />
children face <strong>in</strong> their quality of education perpetuates dire social and economic <strong>in</strong>equalities which impact our entire<br />
community: lower earn<strong>in</strong>gs, poorer health, higher rates of <strong>in</strong>carceration and reduced civic engagement.<br />
partners <strong>in</strong> school <strong>Innovation</strong> believes that the greatest civil rights issue of our generation is to develop public schools<br />
that enable children of all races and economic backgrounds to excel academically and to thrive as learners. We<br />
are proud to have enabled such success for tens of thousands of students <strong>in</strong> the san Francisco Bay area s<strong>in</strong>ce our<br />
found<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> 1993. Now, we are ready to demonstrate our ability to transform public education and children’s lives on<br />
a wider scale, first by expand<strong>in</strong>g to serve the state of california and then, through partnerships, mak<strong>in</strong>g our impr<strong>in</strong>t<br />
on the national education reform agenda.<br />
