System Requirements2.3. Disconnect DeviceThe three prong AC cord from the cabinet, which connects to the 115VAC receptacle, isconsidered the primary disconnect device.2.4. VentilationYou must provide adequate ventilation to prevent equipment overheating. Only the top of theBVM has ventilation holes. If mounting the BVM from the top, use the standoffs provided toensure adequate ventilation. System Requirements3. General DescriptionThe Albér BVM-40 Battery Voltage Monitor helps ensure that jars used in battery backupsystems will perform when needed. The BVM continually reads the voltages of up to 40 jars thateach have a nominal voltage of 12VDC. An easily readable, backlit LCD (liquid crystal display)screen indicates each jar voltage, minimum, maximum and average jar voltage, and overall stringvoltage.Two front panel push buttons are used to light the LCD screen, view readings, set up the unit, andcalibrate the unit when necessary. The buttons are either pressed independently or together toenable the various functions. The light on the LCD goes off after about one minute. Pressing theup or down button turns the light back on.To alarm the user for high or low system cell voltages, alarm contacts will indicate higher orlower cell voltage on the harness for accessing the three connections on the Mux board (P2) to thealarm contacts.The power switch is on the rear panel. The BVM may be left powered on continuously with noadverse effects.3.1. DefinitionsJar – The container that holds a cell or group of cells. In this manual, the term jar refers toone 12 volt battery consisting of six cells.Cell – The basic electrochemical unit that delivers electrical energy. Common usage permitsthe use of the word battery when referring to a cell, although it is technically incorrect.
